Bishop Fellay needs to come out and defend himself and clarify his comments in the interview. Let us give him a chance to speak on it.
Why does he need to defend himself? If he's right, he needs no defense. I truly believe, from what I've read, that Bishop Fellay believes he's
right in what he is doing. I truly believe, from what I've read, that Bishop Fellay thinks Bishop Williamson has some grave problems, is insubordinate, and the Society would be better off without him. Thus, Bishop Fellay will likely ignore anything Bishop Williamson says.
It now appears that the whole ball of wax is in Benedict 16's hands and that Bishop Fellay has already signed on the dotted line of the contract. If Benedict 16 also signs, it's a done deal. Furthermore, from what I've read, I think that Bishop Fellay would probably agree to virtually any counter-proposal that Benedict 16 may make, though, who knows whether or not there will be a another counter-proposal.
We will know where Bishop Fellay stands when the next public letter or talk is made and published. I believe he will not address Bishop Williamson's Comments in any way. I believe he will use his communications to try to convince Vatican officials and, specifically, Benedict 16, that his hold on power is great enough to bring the majority of the Society with him into this unholy alliance. He will also show that Bishop Williamson is an irrelevancy and the Society--and the Conciliar church--will be better without him.
It truly is a sad day for the Society.
