Bishop Fellay needs to come out and defend himself and clarify his comments in the interview.  Let us give him a chance to speak on it.

Why does he need to defend himself?  If he's right, he needs no defense.  I truly believe, from what I've read, that Bishop Fellay believes he's right in what he is doing.  I truly believe, from what I've read, that Bishop Fellay thinks Bishop Williamson has some grave problems, is insubordinate, and the Society would be better off without him.  Thus, Bishop Fellay will likely ignore anything Bishop Williamson says.

It now appears that the whole ball of wax is in Benedict 16's hands and that Bishop Fellay has already signed on the dotted line of the contract.  If Benedict 16 also signs, it's a done deal.  Furthermore, from what I've read, I think that Bishop Fellay would probably agree to virtually any counter-proposal that Benedict 16 may make, though, who knows whether or not there will be a another counter-proposal.

We will know where Bishop Fellay stands when the next public letter or talk is made and published.  I believe he will not address Bishop Williamson's Comments in any way.  I believe he will use his communications to try to convince Vatican officials and, specifically, Benedict 16, that his hold on power is great enough to bring the majority of the Society with him into this unholy alliance.  He will also show that Bishop Williamson is an irrelevancy and the Society--and the Conciliar church--will be better without him.

It truly is a sad day for the Society.

It is a sad day indeed for the Society. However, it is not just sad for the SSPX but for the Traditionalist movement and for the Catholic Church in general. I am a Sedevacantist and do not go to SSPX chapels, but I derive no pleasure or joy from what the SSPX is going through at this time. In fact, I think it is a dark and terrible thing, and if an agreement is in fact accomplished it will be a great victory for the Modernists and a severe blow to all Traditional Catholics. I pray that somehow this unholy alliance can  be averted.

  • If one reads Bp. W's later letters, he has forewarned us of the SSPX going wrong and not to get too attached to it. I am sure he has known about the new thinking within the leadership for some time but could only react this way. Even having him in their midst has not produced much of a rebellion in the UK district. It is too small for that and people are so resigned to the inevitable. His best option would be to find an independent US base with the potential to grow, unless he withdraws from official Catholic life.

    For sure!

He is just not the man to withdraw from official Catholic life. That's why he's blessed with important gifts. God has not handed in his resignation.
