  • During this crisis in the SSPX, I'd like to start a thread for the potential churches that are faced with either joining the society, or remaining independent.

I would ask, respectfully, that this be kept on topic. Please say whether you now attend an SSPX church if you have something to add, or not.

Basically, I want this to be an informational thread for people who really don't know a lot about the situation, and I want it to be filled with things that -should- be considered by people making decisions on whether to join one or not.

I'll add my own information in the next post, from what I've gathered over the years NOT being a member myself, to add to the discussion.

What I want is -facts and experiences.- What I don't want is ad hominems. They're not helpful, and add absolutely nothing to the discussion.

Thanks for your help. Many people will probably be looking at your responses from a specific group of folks, so I would appreciate whatever you have to add within these perimeters.

Please provide links to sources if you have any that you feel would be helpful.

God bless you and thank you for your help.
    Matthew 5:37

But let your speech be yea, yea: no, no: and that which is over and above these, is of evil.

  • I understand that the SSPX uses the 1962 missal.

Included in the 1962 missal, is the elimination of the Leonine Prayers after Mass, the elimination of the final confiteor right before communion, the elimination of the Last Gospel, and the addition of Saint Joseph to the canon of the Mass.

I feel that these are not good changes for multiple reasons.

Firstly, Pope Leo XIII added the Leonine prayers for the Conversion of Russia, and to combat the devil. Leo XIII witnessed a vision before the tabernacle. Jesus and Satan were there and He allowed the devil 100 years to destroy the Church. The elimination of these prayers is -not- helpful, in my opinion.

Secondly, the final confiteor right before communion is very necessary in this day and age, because of the corruption of customs we're experiencing right now, especially regarding women's dress. The final confiteor and the absolution at this point before communion is necessary in this time more than it ever was before since people are routinely distracted during Mass because of this problem.

Thirdly, the elimination of the Last Gospel, in these days of False Ecuмenism, is such a terrible idea, because it mentions the fact in the part read after Mass, "He came unto His own and His own received Him not." I feel this elimination might have been allowed to cater to the Jєωs that were already interfering in the Vatican back then.

Lastly, when you're on a battlefield, you don't want to run to the front line, and draw the line in the sand there, and fight. You want to give yourself some room. What I'm trying to say is, why would you run to the front line (1962 missal) when you should be way back (1957 and before) to combat the modernist forces that wish to hybridize the 1962 missal?

Archbishop Lefevbre said that the 1962 missal was the "last line of defense." Why stand in that "last line" when you can go back further than that before those changes were made in the first place?

These are important points that I feel are worthy of great consideration. I'll add more to the discussion later.

  • I'm not really sure what facts and experiences you are looking for so I will simply say that I go to the SSPX for Mass - thankfully I have an SSPX chapel only 40 minutes or so away from me. But before there was the SSPX, and even after they became a little bigger, we often went to Independents for Mass too, so I am completely at ease assisting at an Independent's Holy Sacrifice as well.

I've also been to Mass celebrated by SV priests and would again if that was all their was, but since I am not SV, I do not go out of my way to look for an SV chapel.

What I personally will not do is attend an indult mass or a MP mass or any mass which is in any way "allowed" by the NO.

I guess my point is, that it is the Mass that matters and not [necessarily] the "community" or the "community's problems" ie SSPX bs going on at the moment.

Go to Mass, get your graces, then leave - this will keep you out of whatever bs is happening outside of the Mass at that particular community.

I hate using the word "community" but I can't think of a better word at the moment.

I never will go to a NO "mass" no matter what.

1974 Fr. Altenbach's - It Is The Mass That Matters is well worth listening too for anyone "on the fence" and for those of us who already only attend the True Mass, it is always a blessing to hear courageous priests preach the truth!

"But Peter and the apostles answering, said: We ought to obey God, rather than men." - Acts 5:29

The Highest Principle in the Church: "We are first of all under obedience to God, and only then under obedience to man" - Fr. Hesse

Believe it or not, Father Altenbach used to be at Saint Michael's too.
