    I happened to be in San Antonio for mass 2 weeks in a row. Fr. Chavarria's sermons were very good. It was a pleasant surprise. It was very evident that he spends his time in prayer and in study.

    Well that's great, and as a matter of fact I didn't exactly have anything against Fr. Zigrang (an independent priest) either, when he was there.

    But they both have one major, fatal flaw: They work for the SSPX, an organization which has totally lost it. An organization that I went from die-hard supporting to die-hard opposing, and for good reason.

    Even GOOD priests continuing to work for the SSPX will have to follow orders, and at any rate the building, equipment, and sizable bank account are all owned by the neo-SSPX now, and who knows what the status of that chapel will be in 2, 3, or 10 years. Who knows what small compromises Rome will require as part of the inevitable deal.

    No thanks.

    I can't bank my family's Mass and Sacraments availability on such a shaky foundation.

    So I wanted to do everything I could to get an independent chapel started around here, something we can count on a bit more. Something NOT under the control of Menzingen or the neo-SSPX.

    And thanks to God's blessings (including God's grace acting through quite a few generous human instruments), I'm surprised just how decent our little outpost/lifeboat has become over the past 2 years. Let's put it this way: whatever small things it's still "missing", I'm more than happy to give up, in exchange for the security of knowing it's not going anywhere.

    If you had the choice between
    * A gift of a reliable truck, free-and-clear
    or
    * free, unlimited use of a Lamborghini for 2 weeks

    Which would you choose?

    I'm the kind of guy (practical) that would go with the free truck.
    I'm always thinking about what I'd want to have chosen after the 2 weeks were up...
    Want to say "thank you"?

  • Don't get me wrong, I don't mean to say that I approve of the neo-SSPX. I was merely impressed at the cogent sermon. I cannot imagine that any of these priests do not know what is going on, or have not already taken sides. In any case, their silence runs the risk of leading the faithful into a state of relaxation to the point that they are not aware or care enough to take a stand in the ongoing struggles between the true Lefebrist priests and the neo-SSPX and the Vatican.

    Fr. Chavarria is one of the good ones for sure. It would not matter if he were with the resistance or otherwise an independent, I really like him a lot.
