Almost without exception, the SSPX transfers always happen on August 15th of each year.

I still see people on this thread saying "sometime in August" and similar phrases. Apparently some are better at discerning patterns than others.

Transfers are effective on a Holy Day of Obligation?  Doesn't that cause some problems?

By the way, thank you, Matthew, for explaining the interest in these transfers above.  I definitely understand the significance of transferring priors and seminary rectors.  I can see what you are saying, i.e., that even the transfers of pastors, assistants, or other priests from one assignment to another are not made in a vacuum.  I don't think the leadership in the SSPX really understands the anxiety that unexpected or unexplained transfers cause in the hearts of the faithful.  I wonder if transfers are not explained to the faithful at the affected chapels.  I would think there would be a reason for most transfers but many, from the way they are described here, seem to be arbitrary.

I think it more likely that there is a reason that is just not shared with the faithful. It doesn't make much sense to go to the trouble to move people around unless the amount of time they've been in a given location is getting excessive, which seems to seldom be the case with the SSPX. The N.O. standard in this area is 12 years before they have to move.

In Phoenix the SSPX seems to move the priests every 2 years or so.  Perhaps they want to rotate them through a retreat house?

Fr. Chavarria's transfer has not been mentioned to the faithful,  I was shocked to read it here!  I know several people who will be devastated, he really works well with the young adults.

Thanks for the information.  I don't think there is a new chapel in New Orleans or, at least, I've not heard of one.  The house and chapel have always been in Kenner, LA, right outside of New Orleans.  That chapel and Baton Rouge have been serviced by a priest out of Queen of Angels in Dickinson, TX - Fr. Greig Gonzales.
