SSPX talk radio defending ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖity
« on: August 06, 2018, 11:59:24 PM »
There are more TranssɛҳuąƖs in Cebu than any other place I have been! I made T shirts then flyers, posting them up in many places, even in Quezon city, near the House of Representatives. I was invited to speak on a talk radio program that was ran by an attorney, there were 8 other men on the show, other attorneys, a retired police captain, most of them members of SSPX.

To my surprise I had to defend the Catholic position against ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖity for over 20 mins. while the host kept insisting, but it is natural to be a ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖ, they were born that way! In my mind I was trying to remember what Church council condemded that we were predestined? At the end I asked, so is God unfair, even Judas had the grace not to betray Our Lord? The Host said, no, it is just a mystery why God makes them that way.

A couple of the men after the show told me, they agree with me.

Tell the host that he and anyone else who believes what he is saying (he likely does not believe it himself, but goes along with it to not go against the tide) has been brainwashed, that for the  2000 years of Catholicism's existence ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖ has never been believed to be something you are born with. The Philippines is a Catholic country.

Was the host SSPX?
Was the host just playing the role of the "devil's advocate" so that your Catholic defense would be more thoroughly explained and understood?

If someone is arguing ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖs are "born that way" or "it's natural", another response could be: so what?

People saying that are usually thinking that following a "natural" inclination cannot be sinful, and that is simply wrong. Our inclinations are disordered. Part of the problem is these discussions often equivocate around what "natural" means. Does natural mean in accord with natural law, having some genetic basis, or something else? Homo acts are not in accord with the natural moral law.

So, what if it were ever shown that ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖity had some genetic basis? Would that change anything?  If some people are disposed to some sin over another, nevertheless people have the ability and moral responsibility to follow the natural moral law despite inclinations to sinful acts.

For a less political example: kleptomania is an inclination to steal items (it's considered an impulse control disorder). Would a genetically-based predisposition to kleptomania absolve a person from sins in the act of stealing? No, a disposition to an immoral act, even if somewhat difficult to resist, does not take away culpability (though in extreme cases it might reduce culpability). And nobody is asking society to recognize kleptomaniacal behavior as acceptable.
