How often do you have Mass right now? You'd think they'd reduce the number of Masses before they'd close down the mission.
Quote from: MaterDominiciHow often do you have Mass right now? You'd think they'd reduce the number of Masses before they'd close down the mission. As of now there is Mass every Sunday. The priest did not say we would have Mass less often, he said there would be no more Masses if collections do not increase. I am not aware of all of the details. We have Mass in a hotel room. The rent is around 500 dollars for a few hours every Sunday. For Mass on most Sundays there are around 25 people so to make the rent we have to contribute around 20 dollars per person. Right now we are not making enough.
The nearest SSPX chapel if this one closes down is in North Jersey. You got some Latin Masses in the 5 boroughs (mostly Brooklyn), but they're ALL diocesan.
The SSPX chapel in Manhattan called St. Christopher's Mission may close because we do not make enough money from the collection to cover expenses. The priest announced this at Mass yesterday. If this causes the faithful to be more generous and give more to the collection then the Mass will continue, but if we cannot or do not give more the chapel will close. If the chapel does close there is another traditional chapel in Bayside New York called Our Lady of La Salette where they say the traditional Latin Mass. It is independent so they are not a part of the Novus Ordo.
Nooo....don't go there! I'll pm you tomorrow.

It is "independent" but it is very bizarre at least when I attended the one and only time many years ago.
