  • In my local SSPX chapel, it has been years since I've heard a good sermon that is relevant to real life today. Here's a simple sermon topic that they could teach, but never do:

"If any of you with children still watch television, you are not yet living a real Catholic life. Your first duty as parents is to raise your children for heaven, and in watching television, you have allowed your children to be lead away to be the slaves of the world. You parents still watching television, do not be surprised when your children stop going to mass, have premarital relations, use drugs, and become just like the world around you, for it was you who allowed the enemy to enter your home through the television.". ...........

There's the beginning of a sermon that you SSPX priests can continue from there, or can you? That is a relevant to life real world sermon subject that you could speak about practically every Sunday, but you won't, likely because maybe you are afraid of chasing away the Novus Ordo types, the lukewarm Catholics which come for the "smells and bells"?

I challenge you SSPX priests to provide the faithful with sermons that are clear and relevant to the struggle which we Catholic parents have against the world. I see the young people falling away to the world shortly after they graduate from high school, and I do not hear any of you addressing the problem. Personally, I have learned to do without you, and even have to correct the errors which you teach my children. But for the salke of all the pother parents that rely on you, I challenge you to become real shepherds, and not just hirelings.

  • St. John Chrysostom, sometime Patriarch of Constantinople:

“I do not speak rashly, but as I feel and think, I do not think that many priests are saved but that those that perish are far more numerous. The reason is that the office requires a great soul. For there are many things to make a priest swerve from rectitude, and he requires great vigilance on every side. Do you not perceive how many qualities a bishop must have that he may be apt to teach; patient towards the wicked, firm and faithful in teaching the Word? How many difficulties therein.

Moreover the loss of others is imputed to him. I need say no more. If but one dies without baptism, does it not entirely endanger his salvation? For the loss of one soul is so great an evil as no man can understand. If the salvation of one soul is of such importance that, for its sake, the Son of God became man and suffered so much, think of the penalty the loss of one soul will entail”. (Third Homily, Acts of the Apostles)

That is the type of sermon I get to hear every week at my SSPX chapel.  The priest is constantly telling people to throw away the TV, get OFF OF THE CELLPHONES, delete the Facebooks, etc.  We get a great blend of the gospels applied to real world scenarios, and they are never "politically correct."

Maybe our priest heard your challenge some time ago?

  • From what I've seen it depends on the priest, some have sermons that are for the most part ok, others not so much, I don't know most the their priests but haven't heard of even one who has the congregation always looking forward to their sermons.

Perhaps there are some out there that others can let us know about.

I agree with this. My SSPX Priest talks about the evils of modern media EVERY week, whether it's the main topic of the sermon or just a side note that he somehow connects to the main topic.

He also frequently condemns the Novus Ordo, calls it a new religion, and on one occasion said that the Novus Ordo is (in his exact words) "not a Mass".

I can't speak for other SSPX chapels because I don't go to many other ones that often, but all the stuff that is frequently complained about on Cathinfo concerning the "new direction" of the SSPX simply does not happen at my chapel. Deo Gratias!

  • It seems like those priests formed by HE Williamson "Brings the fight to the man". Those formed by Le Reux ...not so much.  HE Williamson trained Catholic  Worriers. Le Reux  forms Catholic Gentleman.

I'd say Le Ruex forms make no wave priests.

That is a big advantage, for you can understand him. It at least solves half the problem.

The French priests are very difficult to fully understand in English, and I think that because they do not have a command of English, they have to keep their sermons simple. The combination can make  for a pretty much useless sermon.

I can see where this could be difficult.  Especially when trying to convey more challenging topics in a clear way.
