Has anyone ever seen a notice like this one? It seems like they are making giving Sunday donations more complicated than necessary. Why not just assume the best, that the family who did not give is going or has made a donation at another time, such as in the mail or in person to he priests, etc. 

 AUTOMATED SUNDAY OFFERINGS AND TUITION PAYMENTS 

 With the interest in automated payments (donations and tuition) and recognizing that many individuals operate without cash or checks, we are expanding the automated system for making Sunday offerings, tuition payments and other donations.  Remember, it is one of the six precepts of the Church to support the needs of the Church.  This precept extends to anyone who has some means to offer, including young people who begin working, and not just families and the retired.  It is good to even form this habit in our children when they get some money.  The goal of increasing the automated payment options is to both make it easier for the faithful and to reduce costs by streamlining the accounting process.  

 Please remember that the Church has long asked for the faithful to make their offering at the moment of the Offertory to show that they are uniting their sacrifice with the Sacrifice of the Mass. Making our offering at this moment in the Mass truly helps Catholics to have the right intentions when fulfilling this precept of the Church.  It is also for the edification of our neighbor that we make this offering publicly, so that others are encouraged by our generosity to give to the support of the Church and the spread of the Gospel. Not wanting to lose this symbolism and edification for those making automated payments, we will offer you a slip of paper to fold like a check and drop in the collection basket which states that you are making automated payments.  

 The enclosed flyer outlines options for donations and other payments in more detail, provides an authorization form, and presents an example of the slip of paper that will be available providing a way to unite your automated offerings with  the Mass. This is the dumbest thing i've heard in a while. Who cares what your neighbor thinks. I'm at Mass for Our Lord. Its between me and GOD whether I give to the church or not.

It is not simply between you and God whether or not you obey the Commandment of the Church to support the Church.  Violating any commandment affects all of us.  In any case, I understand that the priest desires that you not cause scandal to your neighbor by giving the appearance that you are not supporting the Church.

This could have been done a long time ago.  It is being done now because it will not shock anyone now and no one dares complain or ask questions or even comment for fear of being looked like a Resistor.  

This is true.  When I was still mired in the Novus Ordo in the early 2000s, I saw bulletin announcements in several parishes asking people to authorize automatic withdrawals from their checking accounts.  The bulletin told people to still throw their empty envelop into the collection basket.

YOU, however, are not in any position to judge whether any given person is violating said commandment.  People need to stop making assumptions about who's committing what sin.  This isn't about actual "scandal" but about people looking for reasons to look down their nose at others ... without even having all the facts.  And the stupidity of this is compounded, since if people are not giving after the implementation of the electronic contribution, then it's possible/likely that they are giving that way and the fake envelope thing is just stupid.

TKGS, it reminded me of the Herd Mentality, Everyone in Mass should be paying attention to whats going on up on the altar not worrying what their neighbor is doing.
