RECEIVED TODAY, AND SHARED WITH FR. GIROUARD'S PERMISSION:

Dear friends,

It looks like the July 2nd Excommunication Decree against the Neo-SSPX was not enough to open the eyes of its leadership.

After having declared, on July 3rd, that the excommunications were unjust and invalid, the Neo-SSPX leadership, on July 11, filed a recourse of appeal to the Vatican authorities. This recourse is based on articles of the Conciliar Code of Canon Law.

Interestingly, on July 2nd, Cardinal Koch, Prefect of the Dicastery for Christian Unity, the Vatican congregation dealing with "separated" Christian churches, declared that the excommunications did not end dialogue, as their main purpose is not to sever relations, but to bring a new life to dialogue.
Quote:
“An excommunication,” Koch said, “is intended to encourage repentance and restore ecclesial communion rather than to end every possibility of dialogue.” He also expressed his hope that discussions with the Society could eventually resume “so that they may once again find the path to the Catholic Church.”

As I said many times before: This is all a big show.

Both sides seem to fight one another, but they both want full communion of the Neo-SSPX with the Conciliar Church. The Neo-SSPX is at a disadvantage, because it refuses to recognize the reality of the Conciliar Church. They stick to their dream of dealing with the Catholic Church.

Keep the popcorn hot and buttered, and the beer cold, folks!

With love and blessings,

Fr. Girouard

I think that Fr. Girouard is right - the SSPX leadership believes that the conciliar church is the true Catholic Church. Otherwise, why would they care about what a bunch of extreme Modernists in Rome think of them?
