SSPX excomm fallout is everywhere

Even here in San Antonio, the local bishop (who was "average" in his attitude towards Tradition) is following the lead of the Pope with the "excommunications", and is coming down hard on the SSPX in this area.

SAN ANTONIO - The Archdiocese of San Antonio is telling Catholics to stop attending Mass and other activities at St. Joseph Chapel, a local site of the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X, after what the archbishop called “schismatic actions” by the group’s bishops.
In a statement, Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller said he was officially notifying Catholics in the archdiocese about actions by the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X (SSPX), also known as the Society of Saint Pius X, that took place on July 1, 2026.

García-Siller said bishops Alfonso de Galarreta and Bernard Fellay of the SSPX ordained Fathers Pascal Schreiber, Michael Goldade, Michel Poinsinet de Sivry, and Marc Hanappier to the episcopacy without “the necessary papal mandate,” which he said was “an act of schism resulting in their automatic excommunication.”
The archbishop said the SSPX has a local site in the Archdiocese of San Antonio and that since 2020, he has collaborated with the priest or priests assigned to the SSPX chapel in the archdiocese. He said that on several occasions, he granted delegation for marriages requested in the SSPX chapel “for the good of the faithful” and “to ensure the canonical validity of the sacrament.”
However, García-Siller said that “in light of the decree issued by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith on July 2, 2026,” he will no longer grant delegation to priests of the Society “to validly preside at weddings or to minister in any capacity within the boundaries of the archdiocese.”
García-Siller said the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith warned lay faithful that SSPX ministers administer sacraments illicitly and that “the sacrament of penance administered by them and marriages witnessed by them are invalid.” He said he is instructing “all Catholics in the archdiocese to stop attending the SSPX Mass and other activities held at St. Joseph Chapel located at 7815 Orland in San Antonio.”
Catholics who want to celebrate the traditional Latin Mass are encouraged to attend Saint Timothy Catholic Church in San Antonio at 1515 Saltillo Street, which the archbishop said celebrates Mass in the Extraordinary Form each Saturday and Sunday.
The archbishop also urged Catholics in the archdiocese to refrain from financially contributing to the Society of Saint Pius X, including participation in its capital campaign to construct a church in Schertz.

“As Catholics, we are to be in union with our Holy Father, the Bishop of Rome and the Vicar of Christ,” García-Siller said, adding that Catholics are called “to be in communion with Pope Leo XIV and the hierarchy of the Catholic Church.” He also asked Catholics to join him in praying “for the reunification of all Christians.”

I normally don't attend SSPX chapel (have an independent priest who took over for Father Carley after he passed away, God rest his soul), but I intend to go out of my way this weekend, have my brother snap a picture of me dropping money into the collection basket and then holding a picture of the consecrations with a thumbs up in front, so that I could package that up and send it to Rome in order to establish my "formal aherence" to rejecting their simulation of excommunication.

Catholics are united. They are united through their public profession of the Catholic Faith. This is a condition of visible membership in the Church and it is the unity required of all Christians. It is a unity that cannot be lost because it is a miraculous characteristic of Christ's Church, a mark that sets the Catholic Church aside from all false bodies. There is no "re-unification." There is only conversion.

Interestingly the Conciliar-Synodal Church lacks any unity of faith, like all false bodies. It openly professes that schismatics and heretics are also part of the Church of Christ and uses already condemned partial-communion theology. The Concilliar-Synodal Church is of itself not a declared condemned sect, so Catholics are not required to leave it. It obscures the Catholic Church with many Catholics intertwined amongst it.
