  • As a former SSPX member, I recall women in choirs singing Mass responses along with the men.  I've researched online and it appears Pope St. Pius X was not in favor of this.  Can anyone point me in the right direction for answers ? (please excuse my ignorance on this matter) Are women permitted to chant the responses during High Mass? If so, when? Under what circuмstances are women allowed to respond?  It seems like a "modernist" approach, but maybe not?

  • Here’s a primer:

"Some preachers will keep silence about the truth, and others will trample it underfoot and deny it. Sanctity of life will be held in derision even by those who outwardly profess it, for in those days Our Lord Jesus Christ will send them not a true Pastor but a destroyer."  St. Francis of Assisi

    Thanks, this has been helpful.

There seems to be differing opinions between trads (go figure) regarding this topic.   Years ago, in SSPX, it was common for everyone to recite Mass responses, however, since then, I've been told by some Resistance folks that women should NOT be responding, and in fact, no one except the altar server(s).
What have other's experiences been?  is the Mass still valid and licit if the women are chiming in for responses?

It is valid, of course. I don't think that Pius XI said anything about women not saying the responses. The dialogue mass is such a mess anyway. Men and women should keep their mouths shut.
