    Young Catholics
    want meat
    4th Sunday of December:
    4th Sunday of Advent

It is sometimes refreshing to read what many young Catholics today expect from their church leaders, which is often not quite what liberal pastors have in mind.
We get a taste of this in a recent post made on Fr. Z’s blog[1], where a youthful blogger well-articulates sentiments by many of today’s younger Catholics who are fed up with soulless prayers, gutless preachings, Godless liturgies, ad nauseam:
The problem is all these pastors, youth pastors and music directors keep telling us young folk what bores us, what we really like, what we find interesting. And guess what, THEY’RE WRONG! If one listens to the young Catholic voice, one would find we are yearning for beauty, for tradition and for truth. Traditional Catholicism honestly fascinates us! We go all week hearing perky pop-songs, jumping techno and chatter that doesn’t leave a minute of silence. We go to church and we get exposed to the same exact things. Thus, of course we find it boring! Why should we go to Mass when we can stay home and sing “Gather us in”, listen to a preacher on TV and fill our rooms with noise? Young people are sick of the world. We long for a safe habitat where we can bow before God and think. We crave contact with ancientness, with a strong grounding, with strong Catholic identity. God’s people are chosen out of the world, set apart, destined for a heavenly home. We want a taste of that!!

First, we wouldn’t mind if you listened… Stop telling us what we think and what we like. Look at traditional Catholic parishes, they are overflowing with young people and traditional seminaries are crowded with young aspirants. The next generation wants precisely what your generation has put away and tried to hide from us. There’s a proverb: “The son longs to remember what the father longs to forget!” Remember it! We hate guitar Masses. We hate bare hymns and Masses that must be kept under 45 minutes. We want the red meat that is the 2,000 year old Catholic faith and not only that, we want to sink out teeth into it!
Here we witness that some younger Catholics want to uphold their faith boldly and not be ashamed of it. They desire to know the beauties of the Church throughout its history and are not be satisfied with a perpetual mea culpa for historical “mishaps” beaten on the breasts of others.

This youthful reaction is all the more heartening when we consider that it is occurring in the midst of a fast-eroding Catholic presence in the political and media arena and a constant loss of Sunday practice now equivalent to that of Protestants (30 or 40%). Let us pray for this small, but resolute young army of soldiers, that they will continue in their “good fight” for the Faith, and eventually come to its fullness in Catholic Tradition.

I have no idea what the problem is. I wholeheartedly agree with this week's Pastor's Corner.

    I agree with 'TraditionalistThomas'.

In Ireland for example both 'Catholic Voice' an Indult leaning conservative Catholic newspaper and 'Alive', which supports the new evangelisation of JPII are promoted by some attending the SSPX yet the 'h0Ɩ0cαųst' was 'beyond discussion'.

There is no doubt the SSPX direction has changed and is sinking fast.

Did SSPX Pastor's corner ever promote Fr Z favourably pryor to the 'expulsion' of Bishop Williamson?

  • My point really is given the direction of the SSPX, you can't be too surprised at them now. Even during the recent conference given by Bishop Williamson in Toronto it was shown how inadequate  the SSPX priests have been. Unless they remove Bishop Fellay and the leadership in Menzingen the SSPX will sink further. Whilst criticised for saying so, Bishop Williamson was correct to say 'get rid of Bishop Fellay'.

I think I have seen novus ordo websites with more meat than that!

I concluded the same in 1960's when I was a teenager. Today I'm a grandfather's age and I see parents making the same mistakes. We were all poisoned every last one of us no matter the age, everyone that lived through the changes from like 1955 and on. That's EVERYONE. Until we acknowledge this, we will keep return to the same vomit again.

It is the parents duty to lead, and it is not the job of the parent to be their childs playmate, or to be popular with young people. I think that is the problem with all of these pastors, youth minsters, music directors, they want to please the young, they want to be viewd as "cool", instead of being parents leaders, guides.

Just as important is that Catholics need to learn that the Church does not change, and never has been about change. They need to learn that the traditional mass is the same mass from the 1500's till 1954. It was only in 1955 that all manner of change was introduced, and it has not stopped. That is not Catholic. The Church is a solid anchor that is fixed in the ground, not an anchor that drags (as in 1950's), or a ship adrift like since Vatican II.

Just two simple teachings that will root Catholics in reality.

  • Wow!!!

The Internet is evil and we should stay away from it, but to go to the comments of "Fr. Z's" blog(!) and actually mention them in a positive light over the sspx.org with a nice Novus Ordo picture as a background must be recommendable and virtuous, right?????

What will be next, Rorate Caeli???

+Judas Fellay and his mob are beyond disgusting, really.

    KYRIE ELEISON!
    Non Habemus Papam
