  • Would you put this right next to the picture of Pope Francis hanging in the vestibule?

Far as I know, there is not a resistance chapel anywhere in the world with a pic of Francis.

Ladislaus is making a not-so-gentle dig at the Recognize and Resist position.

Excuse me, I have a thread to move to the Resistance subforum.

Well, more about this picture ... and about SSPX vs. Resistance.  SSPX feels the need to put a picture of the current V2 pope in the vestibule as a sign of respect.  Does this picture represent the Resistance attitude by contrast?  Is this picture compatible at all with what Catholics are supposed to think and feel about the Vicar of Christ?  Sedevantists are often criticized for their disrespect.  How is this not even more disrespectful than calling him Jorge?

Do other Resistance members agree that this picture represents the  Resistance?

St. Bellarmine said an attacking pope could be resisted.

    The picture shows precisely that.

It looks like George Bergoglio dressed in white to me.  Maybe if you put a clown nose on him it would be easier to see.

  • I dunno. The Resistance bishops and priests don't have a great deal to say about Francis. They tend to speak of all of the conciliar Popes as Modernists.
I think that a picture that reflects defending the Truths of the Catholic faith without compromise would be a better representation.
"It is licit to resist a Sovereign Pontiff who is trying to destroy the Church. I say it is licit to resist him in not following his orders and in preventing the execution of his will. It is not licit to Judge him, to punish him, or to depose him, for these are acts proper to a superior."

    De Romano Pontifice, Lib.II, c.29

Bellermime wasn’t talking about a heretical pope in this quote.

I have read Daly’s take.  Not sure I’m convinced.

OK, but I'm not really talking about that.  This isn't primarily about R&R per se.

What I'm asking is ... Is this really an appropriate attitude for a Catholic to have regarding the Vicar of Christ?

One can resist respectfully also.  Does this picture evince a certain amount of contempt for the Vicar of Christ that is unacceptable?  He is still, after all, the Vicar of Christ, a "little Christ on earth", as one saint put it, isn't he?

That’s a fair point, and truth be told, I’m not sure I would post it again if I had a chance to reconsider.

I guess I was thinking of it as a pictorial of what actually would be happening if Christ deposed the pope.

But I May also have let my revulsion for Francis eclipse my respect for his office, and I repent of having posted the picture.

I'm not quite sure this is a bad representation. After all, it is the Head of the Church chastising His "employee". Since it is His Spotless Bride that is being defiled He has every right to show righteous indignation. OTOH, if the pic represented someone such as ++Lefebvre or + Williamson driving out the legitimate vicar of Christ, well, that's another issue--i.e., an inferior attacking a superior. But would any one here be upset if the pic in question became a reality? Isn't this something we are hoping for, praying for? And I wonder if  there any real difference between this picture and Our Lord's words to the first Pope on that occasion when He said "...get thee behind me, satan"?

Fr. Rodriguez and David Rodriguez do a good job answering the perceived claim of "Pope bashing"
