  • According to Fr. Joseph Pfeiffer, the FSSP has a more traditional Catholic video than the SSPX right now.

He posits that the SSPX has already sunk lower than the FSSP.

He mentioned a list of things the SSPX video DOESN'T EVEN MENTION, including the "Crisis in the Church", the "Sacrifice of the Mass", etc.

They are both found on Youtube; one is 16 minutes and one is 8 minutes. If I wasn't married with kids and several jobs (and still recovering from a very busy week, which continues to stay busy), I would watch them and see what he means.

For those with the time, I invite you to do so, and comment here.

    Thanks.

I certainly believe this is true for those in Menzingen, and many district superiors, including Fr. Rostand; but its too ambiguous a statement to be true for all aspects of the SSPX, especially considering Validity (for the most part) and recognizing there are still good priests in its echelons. I think this has more to do with that 'branding' company Bishop Fellay stupidly engages with, and Krah.

Don't forget this video was a fund raising for the building itself, not the SSPX as a whole. I just want to be fair and just. (and I'm open to being corrected)

  • I have watched both videos and neither of them is about the crisis in the church, although the SSPX video bases its video on the specialness of their seminary and the need to expand while others are closing. The SSPX video implies that the reason their seminaries are booming is because of their Catholic tradition.

The FSSP looks like a traditional outfit as well. The only problem someone could have with either of them is their willingness to obey "doctrinally rotten Rome".

Like it or not, it is groups like these who remain part of the mainstream that will be the heirs to the church after the great collapse brought about by the novus ordos.

  • If memory serves, sspx.org and/or Angelus Press had materials to offer to priests who were considering joining the SSPX. There were pamphlets and I think a dvd. Does anyone remember that? I searched both sites just now, and didn't see anything like that.

The FSSP has an excellent instructional video on the TLM. I'm with the Resistance, but would have no hesitation recommending this video to anyone who wants to learn more about the Mass of All Ages.

For what it's worth, The Recusant newsletter said a very similar thing, a few months ago.

  • Comparing the two videos for their imagery content, the FSSP looks more Catholic.

The ExSPX video has a "slickness" reminiscent of Bp. Fellay's CNS Menzingen interview.

You may recall, this was the May 2012 film where HE hung himself while trying to spin a yarn in support of Vatican II.

The ExSPX seminary scenes are also similar to a Ford automobile factory promotion.

All the seminarians are being processed down the assembly-line.

Operations are squeaky clean, nice and they do efficiently "pump out" the priests.

Can't wait and see what the SSPX-SO seminary video looks like?

While the FSSP video does mention much more than the SSPX, it is an unfair comparison.  The FSSP is advertising itself as a whole, whereas the SSPX video is about promoting one seminary and raising funds for that purpose.  I agree the SSPX video is more polished, faster-paced.  Sorry, but for once I disagree with Fr. Pfeiffer's conclusion, that "the SSPX has sunk lower than FSSP."  His statement may be true, but I need more evidence than a comparison of two videos with different aims in mind. If this is part of a whole picture, let's see the entire picture.
At any rate, we must judge righteously, ACCORDING TO DOCTRINE, not advertising videos!

Sadly, I fear most Trads aren't willing to do the hard work of discerning the doctrine.  Most are content to compare videos and make decisions with eternal consequences based upon them.  Once one studies the doctrine, videos become fairly irrelevant.  Keep in mind, also, that videos are aimed at the LCD in any given demographic, hence the "branding" of the SSPX.

It IS fair to conclude, based upon these videos, that the sheeple in the SSPX pews have sunk lower than the sheeple in the FSSP pews.

St. Francis Xavier threw a Crucifix into the sea, at once calming the waves.  Upon reaching the shore, the Crucifix was returned to him by a crab with a curious cross pattern on its shell.
