"We will help those who we can help in our own meager way.  But the heavy intellectual work; the polemics; the keeping abreast of general current events is through on this blog.

The pace will now slow and refocus.

The people who have spoken with their silence have been heard."

The real truth is that there was nothing you could write that couldn't be easily demolished. You were simply outclassed; against the truth there is no argument.

Don't have a dog in this fight, at least not directly but wow.

I get the intent of wanting to mount a concerted effort but, maybe other people have truly better ideas, or at least truly better things to do with their time?

It's almost like "Well, I tried to save you people but, if you want everything to go to pieces, fine. I'll go then."
Is this the same person who was here recently speaking about a problem with rash judgement, or am I not recalling that correctly?

  • Just replace "Resistance" with "Traditional Movement" -- fortunately there have always been websites, companies, and individuals that "stuck through" the Traditional movement, through thick and thin.

I remember a few years ago, someone (a priest?) was talking about the chances of success for the Resistance, and he basically said, "It has to succeed, or else we'd have to start over with a movement identical to it." He's right: what choice do we have? Literally resign our families and ourselves to eternal Hell? The Resistance is nothing other than a corps of faithful fighters for Catholic Tradition, which is nothing other than the faithful practice of the Catholic Faith itself! The Catholic Faith cannot fail.

The Catholic Faith does not change over the years. Tradition IS the Catholic Faith (the culpability of those in the Novus Ordo, and the status of non-Traditional Catholics, is another discussion for another day). And where is Tradition? I won't say that the Resistance has a monopoly on Tradition, but let's just say that from what I've studied and experienced, the old SSPX position (the Resistance) is the best lifeboat there is to preserve one's Faith today. I'm not going to give up on this lifeboat. All the other ones have much greater problems than "lack of growth" or "lack of success".

Yes, it takes a certain mindset or personality to be "slow and steady". Sean Johnson is a pure choleric (cf. the classic Catholic work, The Four Temperaments), and so he wants to effect great change and THIS YEAR OR ELSE. He's a great supporter of the Resistance, he's a great writer, he's a great guy -- but he can't do things for years on end without noticeable results.

He would never run a forum for 11 years -- unless something exciting were going on at all times, or growth was noticeable (either on the forum itself, or the movement the forum represented).

Let's just say it's a good thing I'm part German/melancholic, and not all Irish -- or CathInfo would have been closed down many times by now.

I will also add that I can understand Sean, because I'm HALF choleric myself (I get that from my Irish side). That side of me gets discouraged just like he does. But the melancholic/German side of my flesh inclines me to plod along for years on end.

Okay Mr wise-guy... you join here just to relish in your vainglory.  Could you now please enlighten us to the real Truth that you accuse Mr. Johnson of having argued against.

  • Boston must be rejoicing... whenever I'd bring up Sean Johnson up in disccussion, things would all of a sudden become uncomfortable and a quick change of subject would ensue. (I suspect that the poster of the OP, is a stooge)

Sorry, I just can't put him in the same trash bin consisting of most in the blogosphere.

I think Mr Johnson is a diamond in the rough, he's still young and may be lacking a little in the realm of wisdom by experience. This is were I find myself in disagreement with him at times.

  • A few short observations.

Mr. Johnson seems to have the opinion that his disseminations were important enough that those who think of themselves as counter revolutionaries should have frequented and accepted his writings, and that if they did things could have been have changed.

The fault is placed upon Traditional Catholics who are too apathetic to get up and join in what he calls "the resistance".
He never addresses the fact that there is no vigorous leadership among this group, and that in fact this group is just an effort to recreate the SSPX.

A fact of human behavior is that generally men are not going to read or frequent blogs unless what they read is of sufficient import and interest to them that they will make time to frequent a site. If you own a blog, one should  take serious  note of that. If people do not find your output to be useful to them is some way, it is unlikely that they will follow you.
In the end it is content which draws subscribers and generates enthusiasm.  Surely many restorationist Traditional Catholics are fatigued by sharing their lives with the endless drama and saga of the SSPX which is now in re-run syndication mode.

Charts and statistics proving that no one came to the dance are an entirely different issue fro, and  the determining why the attendance was sparse, and accusing those who declined of some deficiency which prevented them, does not answer the question either.

You may have hit the nail on the head on this, if I understand you correctly. This is what moved me to say "he's still young and may be lacking a little in the realm of wisdom by experience."

I've lived through very similar times already, the time following V II untill the SSPX took hold in the U.S.

I admire Sean for his courage to put himself out there and try to build up the faithful. He worked hard regardless of whether or not others appreciated it.  A man like that can be respected.
You on the other hand hide like a lazy coward and hurdle insults; unworthy of respect; disgusting.

  • Oh “Captain Tor,” your words doth drip
    With such a sneering pride,
    Which robbed you of ability
To rejoice my voice had died.
A wiser man would rest content
And not go poke the bear,
But arrogance doth rule your soul
    Which lacks all “savoir faire.”
    Your jab to a choleric
Who would have left the field,
    Has served to reawaken
    His duty not to yield.
    Your clerical allies
    Will surely be dismayed,
“Have you no good sense, man?”
    What a blunder made!
“You said that you would help us
But look what you have done:
He was gone, and you brought him back
    With the battle nearly won!”
And so I owe you heartily
    For your happy fault,
Since but for that, I would be gone
    Something like John Galt.
    Thus, this “ode” I dedicate
    With happy gratitude,
    To “Captain Tor” and company
    Who restored my fighting mood.
    Please know I mean sincerely
The next article on the blog,
Would surely never have seen the light
    And lain behind the fog.
Yes, you may take the credit, sir
Since it is all the plain result,
    Of your taunting arrogance
    And your crude insult.
And so I must now end these lines
    With some plain advice,
The next time you have victory
Don’t be a jerk, be nice.
Because of you, we will carry on
    Even if no one wishes,
And like St. Anthony, so we too
Go on preaching to the fishes!

  • Thank you Sean.
You can also thank the pimp of "Captain Tor" for sending out a stumbling bum to do his dirty work... guess they never heard not to let a drunkard watch over their fine wine...

Hope this helps to bring light to Sean's work, I can't say it has been negative publicity thus far... we'll see.
