    Obituary for Father Joseph Bachtiger

    Rev. Joseph Bachtiger entered into eternal rest on Friday September 17, 2021 in Pompano Beach, Florida. He was 84 years old. Father was born and raised in Philadelphia and attended St. Charles Seminary in Philadelphia. For 37 years he worked as a banker for Bryn Mawr Trust Company and later served as priest at St. Mary the Virgin Church in Paulsboro, NJ as well as Sacred Heart Church in Lawrence, Mass. He was a member of Lago Mar Resort and Beach Club, enjoyed classical music and attending the Metropolitan Opera in New York City. 
    He is survived by his sister, Mary Varano of Gibbstown and many nieces and nephews. Father Bachtiger was predeceased by his father, Harold Bachtiger, his mother, Mary Azzarello and his sister, Carol Edwards. 
    A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated promptly at 10:30 AM on Tuesday September 28, 2021 in St. Mary the Virgin Church, 1520 S. Delaware St., Paulsboro, NJ. Interment Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohocken, PA. Arrangements by McBride – Foley Funeral Home, Paulsboro. Contributions can be made in his memory to St. Mary’s Church, 1520 S. Delaware St., Paulsboro, NJ 08066. Memories can be shared at www.mcbridefoleyfh.com.
