Blessings in Christ! Everyone will do what they will do, however I highly urge you not to create this negative list. Nothing good can come of it. Who can know what priests will change their minds. I know laypeople who changed their minds after the issue with the Dominicans and Capuchins. Why label any priests in a bad light. It is one thing to recognize the terrible actions of Fellay and the leadership but quite another to create an "enemies" list of regular priests, who may be confused, uninformed, etc and who could change their minds. That is my view.
You make a good point, Amicus.
Seraphim -- I was talking more about making a list of "silent" priests, which was indeed talked about last time we brought up this topic (so I'm not completely crazy here).
But even so, coming back to Amicus' point -- these priests shouldn't be forced to dig their heels in and make it easier to later on "switch sides".
Positive and negative lists are not the same thing. The Catholic Church has a list of Saints, but not anti-Saints.
Churches have lists of who to pray for -- but not who NOT to pray for.
So he's on to something, but it's hard to put it into words.
A dirty list of who's in favor of a sell-out could easily have mistakes, such as
listing some priests who are rumored or have spoken imprudently, only to regret
it soon thereafter, but then it's too late, etc. It could also be missing some who
are not so outspoken but are instead doing a lot of dirty work in the background,
where nobody can see it happening. Remember Pierre Teilhard de Chardin and
his "clandestines?" Almost nobody on the outside knew about those until later.
Don't presume this kind of thing isn't going on now! +Fellay has his henchmen
in key positions, but you can be pretty sure there is a network all over the world,
working for the success of the sellout, and they would take your dirty list and
use it for dinner-time entertainment!
But in the end, it isn't really noble-minded to make such a list, as Amicus says.
You would be stooping to their level, so to speak. There is much greater virtue
in making the "in danger" list. Those are the priest we need to be extra
conscious of, such as, if we ever get the chance to meet them or come to their
aid: woe to us who are ignorant when we should not be! As for the ones "on
the fence," they might be encouraged to see that there is support out there for
priests who are willing to take a stand for the Faith, come what may. Don't
presume this is not a very difficult quandary for them.
At the same time, I think it's helpful to see the key players pushing for the deal,
such as those close to +Fellay and the various district superiors. I think we need
to be apprised of their antics, all right.
