  • Funny that just a few years ago this Neocon website had NOTHING nice to say about the SSPX.  Now not are they only happy to report SSPX's pending acceptance by modernist Rome....

But even feature and promote one of their chapels....

Nah.  He and an elite few kept the embers burning for the time God allotted during some of the darkest days.  The cause will be picked up by others and the Church will endure and survive and eventually attain glory.

  • From Rorate:

    Quote
La Croix: You received, on the past April 1st, Bp. Bernard Fellay, Superior-General of the Society of Saint Pius X. Is the reintegration of the Lefebvrists in the Church once again being considered?

Pope Francis: In Buenos Aires, I always spoke with them. They saluted me, they asked for [my] blessing on their knees. They consider themselves Catholic. They love the Church. Bp. Fellay is a man with whom we can dialogue. It is not the case of other somewhat strange elements, such as Bp. Williamson, or others who have radicalized. I think, as I had expressed in Argentina, that they are Catholics on the path to full communion. During this Year of Mercy, it seemed that I should authorize their confessors to pardon the sin of abortion.
    • They thanked me for this gesture. Before that, Benedict XVI, whom they respect greatly, had liberalized the Mass according to the Tridentine Rite. We dialogue well, we do a good work.
Would you be ready to grant them a status of personal prelature?

Pope Francis: It would be a possible solution, but, before, a fundamental agreement should be established with them. The Second Vatican Council has its value. We move forward slowly, with patience.

  • Note how the Pope places Bishop Williamson on one side of the chasm, and Bishop Fellay on the other! They are worlds apart, according to the Pope.

And THIS POPE likes Bishop Fellay! He also sees the fundamental difference between these two SSPX bishops.

Can I begin to express how happy I am to support Bishop Williamson, and to have the great blessing of hosting him at St. Dominic's Chapel this Sunday?

Either we have no successor to the Archbishop, or we have Bishop Williamson. Those are the only 2 logical choices.

And it doesn't make sense that in a dispute, all 4 of the bishops would get it wrong, with not even ONE OF THEM faithful to the Archbishop's work, maintaining his position on the Crisis. Think about it: the position would be wide open; one of them could distinguish himself just by staying faithful.

Those who claim we have "no good bishops from the Archbishop" also claim that the Archbishop himself wasn't much of a prize either. Naturally, I part company and completely disagree with such fools.

  • It proves that the Society was never a united ship and the more ambitious members harboured agenda of their own. The archbishop presided over a lot of confusion which today can be seen in so many parts of the trad world. The instability I saw as a boy continues through the generations.

The world of triumphant Bergoglio quite naturally sees men like Bp. W as radicals.  The tables have turned and someone brought up on liberation theology (or smart enough to go with the trend) will clearly know their enemy. Bp. Fellay was willing to be bought and will quite easily trade fundamentals and both will concur that the "radical" bishop was never quite Catholic. That will be the message to persuade the undeciders.

Bravo Mathew... my thoughts exactly! The New Rome seems to get it. I think that the continual resurrecting, by the detractors of Bishop Williamson, of the dead horse just so they can beat it again and again, is just another sign that the continual attacks against Bishop Williamson are just completely erroneous and personal. Pope Francis definitely sees the Theological and Doctrinal differences between the bishops.  God Bless Bishop Williamson and all those other Bishops and Priests that have persevered through these trying times.
