:surprised:
Funny, I don't remember rogation days even in the pre-vat days of my childhood and I had to google to find out what they are.
So.............. what are they?
An explanation can be found in any daily missal on the page after the Fifth Sunday after Easter, in which gospel Our Lord tells us to ask anything of the Father in His name.
Rogation (rogare, to ask) days are 3 days of supplications through the litany of the saints , psalm #69 and prayers sung during the penitential processions on the days before Ascension Thursday. The priest wears purple stole and cope. On the 3rd day which is the vigil of the Ascension he may wear white and celebrate the vigil Mass HOWEVER, whichever he choses he must comemorate the other.
Rogation days were started in the 5th century in France and in 816 Pope Leo III introduced them into Rome and soon after they were observed throughout the Church.
In their Gospel Jesus tells us to ask, seek and knock.
Rogation days are marked on the SSPX (Cdn) calendar.
The object of these "rogation" supplications is to appease the anger of God and avert the scourges of His Justice and to pray for the harvest.
A good devotion for the resistance
