Resistance radio station - Coming soon

  • Hi there,

So after quite a bit of work, I will be able to launch a radio station for the resistance in the next few weeks.
I am writing here just to let you all know, and to ask for help over the coming years with the project.

Basically, it will be broadcasting traditional Catholic mp3s on a variety of subjects, from family life to the nєω ωσrℓ∂ σr∂єr, and plenty of catechism, sermons and other topics.

It is intended to be as broad as possible as it will be broadcasting 24/7.

So that this is not just a one man show, I am looking for all and any help I can get. Anyone interested in having their own shows/podcasts will be especially welcome. For example some of the Fathers/mothers may want to do shows on homesteading/ homeschooling etc. etc. Some of the intellectuals among you could do shows on anything from politics to philosophy. You get the idea. Whatever your talents are.

If so, just record the show and I will pop it up on the playlist.

I'll welcome any criticism of the station even if I don't agree with it, so long as you're not just trolling me.

Anyone who wants to help promote station will also be appreciated.

Initially it will be going out from a website, but I will be working on putting it onto special radio streaming platforms/apps. It will be limited on youtube streaming/facebook etc, not just because of censorship, but mostly because they limit the time you can stream to about 8 hours.

The main site and station will be self-hosted like cathinfo is, so the only thing that can take it down is a power cut.... or my cat stepping on my keyboard.... Don't go there. ;)

I'm forgetting to mention things for sure, so please do put your questions up here. You could pm me if you want it to be more discreet.

    In Christ.

  • This is a great concept and it has been on my mind for a long time.

It seems the neo-trads and the Novud ordo-ites have good media venues, but the Resistance and sedes are mostly left out in the cold.

Recently, the conservative trad podcast,"Restoring the Faith" stated on their "The Roundup" Friday show, that they represented all the major trad orders
(SSPX, FSSP, ICK, and the indulters).  But what about the rest of the trad world?

I've been able to tune-in to the Novus ordo FM "Relevant Radio" shows on a daily basis.  Initially, I blew them off, but I soon found that they are functioning as the watch-dog for the newChurch ʀɛʋօʟutιօn, by misguiding their listeners.  They are pro-vaccine and pro-Israel and endorse the USCCB.  But also, their theological concepts are frequently off base.  Such as giving credence to Aliens, and promoting Pope Francis's teachings in sound bite form.

The have a radio host, Patrick Madrid, a layman, who functions as a Catholic counselor to all of North America.
So frequent are the mistake and errors, someone should track their broadcasts and issue a weekly ombudsman report to set the Catholic record straight.

What you're trying to do St. Patirck is a noble task, but will not be easy.
Although from his experience, Father Coughlin might disagree, I think nowadays, radio is the way to go to minimize censorship.

May Our Lady enlighten, guide and protect your apostolate!
"Some preachers will keep silence about the truth, and others will trample it underfoot and deny it. Sanctity of life will be held in derision even by those who outwardly profess it, for in those days Our Lord Jesus Christ will send them not a true Pastor but a destroyer."  St. Francis of Assisi

  • This is a great idea.

And I know that computers and algorithms have a much harder time identifying "keywords" in speech vs. the printed word.

Anyone who's (tried to) use voice recognition software will understand. Alexa, Siri, etc.

  • I agree, this is a great idea.  I have even wondered about the feasibility of having a Roku channel, but I'm not sure of the cost, the requirements for a dedicated service, nor whether my providers (Spectrum at one house, ATT at the other) would tolerate such bandwidth use.  Maybe I could ask Lily :jester:

I've got desktop PCs running out of my ears, so I could well afford to "donate" one of those for a Roku-dedicated server, but then again, there are issues of cost and bandwidth.

I'd kind of like to do a podcast, but I don't want to drive people to the Novus Ordo or even to Protestantism.  I speak very slowly and deliberately --- someone once told me that my intonation sounded like someone who had lived in Britain until they were about six years old, think a goyische Ted Koppel with a touch of a patrician drawl --- and my speaking voice isn't suitable for 21st-century American attention spans.  It's all about the soundbites.

  • I would check out your channel and think such things are a good idea. Does anyone listen to the Crusade Channel? I imagine they're better than Novus Ordo Relevant Radio. I would listen to see if it is any good if you didn't have to pay. The website says you can listen to the Mike Church show for free for a limited time. I may check him out. I never hear anyone talking about Mike Church even though I am always seeing ads for his show online. I fear the paywall has made the channel irrelevant. I wonder how many subscribers they have. If it is enough to cover costs or if they have rich backers like some claim Voris and the members of Trad Inc. supposedly have. Like Opus Dei or some rich båñkêrs.

  • Simpleman,
I haven't looked into it, but I initial reaction is that I would have to pay to get into roku and then would be subject to all kinds of restrictions, most likely concerning hate speech or similar censorship. It's hardly worth it. But once the station is up and running, have a look into it, and we could always try.

As for your podcast, write to me. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. I want to hear as many ideas as possible.

And Matto, there will absolutely be nothing by way of a subscription. The best (or worst) will be asking for voluntary donations to cover electricity costs so that I can afford to keep the server up. But even that might not be needed. This is why I need help. I have to work and earn a living like everyone else, so I don't have a huge amount of spare time. The system once up and running will be almost self sustaining ( radio software these days is amazing), but to make it seem relevant and up to date, "live" shows are necessary. People need to feel a connection.

And thanks guys for the moral support.

    I’m game if he is.

They certainly couldn’t accuse us of coming to prearranged conclusions!

Well, I have a hard time presenting myself in that kind of forum, the "lay apostolate" thing.  Yes, I opine here a lot on CathInfo and have some pretty strong opinions, but it's a different thing altogether to have my own "podcast".  I've spoken out against the lay apostolate thing before, and I stand by it.  To me it would take a certain amount of arrogance to host a show like that ... unless it were just interviewing people or, at best, moderating a discussion.  That phenomenon of lay people having shows on EWTN has always rubbed me the wrong way, and it would rub me the wrong way to do the same thing myself.  I feel that it should be the domain of the priests and the bishops.

On top of that, I would have no place on a Resistance radio station because I disagree with certain articulations of R&R.

Thanks, but I'm not going to be doing any podcast.  My wheelhouse is here online, the written word.

The Roku channel, if I ever do it, would basically be for my own self-actualization, which all by itself is just a vanity, but if I could get hold of some programming to be played on-demand, I could have both my hobby horse, my own little soapbox, and a vehicle for the greater sanctification and perhaps even the salvation of souls, as well as presenting other points of view that might be only tangentially religious.  It'll probably never happen, and at that point, I have to wonder how much some of these people are willing to pay, to have these dinky little Roku channels that show on-demand programming such as public domain episodes of The Beverly Hillbillies and I Love Lucy.  Aside from free access to various news channels, regional news broadcasts, and world news from various perspectives (France 24, Al-Jazeera, RT, et al), some of those "dinky little channels" are my guilty pleasure, such as arms-related channels and those that show obscure movies and docuмentaries.  I am also able to use NordVPN to get access to Polish network television news, as well as regional news from the area where my son's family lives.

We raise money for you to go on a trip to Hungary with Sean where you interview about the state of Catholic tradition over there for the network. One of you interviews clergy and one of you samples beer. It's a win-win situation.

  • I think it is a great idea.  Time to get truth in a Jesus out to public. Too much cowardly lies out there about Catholic Faith.

One thing to get Truth out is to have certain shows on a basic level because many people including Catholics don’t know the 10 Commandments.

In a perfect world lay people wouldn't be in this position, but God is depending on  it today. Sister Lucia says that we can't wait for (NO) Bishops and prelates to give us direction anymore. It falls on us. I would be 100% more confident in your and Sean's opinions than any diocesan quasi-trad priest or Bishop. It may be more of a penance for you to do it than to not do it (I know you know how to keep your ego's in check.)
There are a a lot of strange ideas about resistance and independent Catholics that need clearing up. If the truth be known , there would be an opportunity for true Catholic evangelism.
Also, your differences would make for excellent listening!
