  • I remember Fr. Wathen used to visit Georgetown, TX (few miles North of Austin) every month and pray the Holly Mass at a private house.  That was in the 1980s.

By that time, the SSPX did not have a chapel in Austin.  Then the priests prayed the Mass at a private house in the South of the city.

I wonder what happened to those groups of Traditionalists.

Probably absorbed into the SSPX or Indult congregations. There isn't any other "Traditional" chapel within a 3 1/2 hour radius of San Antonio. The only option is Indult. The SSPX has a chapel in San Antonio and a long-term "mission" in Austin in a hotel room (still!) But if you reject the Indult (as you should!) and the SSPX ceases to be an option, prepare to drive a long way for Mass.

That's the need St. Dominic's Chapel is filling.
