  • The Victim Adorers of the Holy Face are in the process of  losing their hermitage due to problems with the local council. They need prayers as well as tangible help. As trads, you know the importance of a Carmel. Help. Please.

  • I agree that a Carmel provides immense spiritual benefits to the world, and they should be supported materially and with our prayers.

However, I must publicly criticize Tradidi (Samuel L., a former CathInfo member) for his prideful stance towards Bishop Williamson. He is trying to tell the bishop what to do: He is literally commanding (not asking, not suggesting) the good Bishop to donate millions of dollars to this particular Carmel.

Samuel is stepping WAY over bounds by trying to force the bishop to do Samuel's will by rabble-rousing a "petition". Since when does the Church engage in tactics normally used by liberal SJWs (Social Justice Warriors)?

What's wrong with a polite and respectful e-mail, suggesting that he support this Carmel, and leaving it at that?

Samuel, you're a layman. Know your place! You have no place telling a bishop what to do.

  • It is easiest to see the respect that is missing from Samuel's petition, when you read a letter that HAS this respect:

  • I cannot find the original petition to which you refer, but I agree with the requirement of respect towards a Catholic bishop.  I'll even treat Novus Ordo priests with respect, even though personally I'm not even sure that they're priests.

  • Please don't forget the Carmelite nuns at the perimeter of the issue. They are blameless and much in need of help. The problematic petition has seemingly countermanded the validity of the appeal on their behalf. If the resistance can't manage to support two (so far) little nuns in an effort to establish the blessings innate to a Carmel, I don't see what larger things we can hope to maintain.

  • † OPORTET CHRISTUM REGNARE!

First, Mother "superior" was never a Carmelite Nun.
She lived under the rule of St. Benedict but she was never in a benedictine monastery as a benedictine nun.
She was a hermit with her own rule under the bishop of the novus ordo church and then found to tradition.
    2. She needs a priest who knows her and guided her for at least 3/5 years and can say that she really knows all the traditional teachings of the holy mother church and also understands the spirit of Carmel.
    3. The priest (her superior!) has to talk to a traditional bishop (bishop Williamson or bishop Faure) asking for His blessing. The monastery has to be establish with the blessing of His Excellency Bishop Richard Williamson.
    4. It would be better if she had the permission of another superior of a traditional Carmelite Monastery to enter and to make an experience of how it is to live in community, how it is to submit under a superior and how the rule ar
    e lived...
    5. If she can´t find a monastery that wants to invite her for a while, so she should live by her own the carmelite rule under a priest that is watching her (24h) and analyzes her, as well as her rule. Because beside the Rule of Carmel she got her OWN Rule, so they are her private interpretation and adaptation of the TRUE Carmelite Rule.
    6. Building a monastery is simple, I know many persons who did it, also priests, but to remain humble and obedient to the superior, also a Mother Superior or a Father Superior has a superior, for example the BISHOP, has to be checked: look what happened to so many, as to Fr. Raffael or Fr.Pfeiffer...
    7. The humble submission to the will of God is= to respect the opinion and also decisions of the bishops and to accept everything. We do not know God's plans, not even a Mother Superior or a Father Superior or Father General knows it, for God's plans are not human plans. And don´t forget: God's plan does not begin and end with a single person. We may make our plans, but God has the last word.
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, or your ways my ways, says the Lord. Isaiah 55:8
What matters is to live every moment in Christ, trusting Him and His providence, without doing an idol out of one's own rule and one's own dreams and desires. I´m sorry but it has to be said that= To stick to fanatically to your own ideas and dreams, as well as to form a group, to set up a group, to found a parish or establish a religious convent, can become an idol and make BLIND!
I wish these two children of God that are living as a hermit, Gods blessing and a peace in their heart and the joy of the wounded and united hearts of Jesus and Mary when they have to suffer.

Whatever I wonder, if Mother Irene (mother superior, if i remember this is her name) had vows under the rule of Saint Benedict and she made perpetual vows she still needs the Pope to allow her to leave this rule and devote herself to another rule.
Now that we have problems concerning modernism and the pope, she should at FIRST find a bishop of the tradition that accept this change and allow her to be no longer a benedictine hermit but a Carmelite hermit (and do not forget, to be a hermit does not mean to be a nun).
Finally if she want´s to be called a CARMELITE NUN, she has at first (especially if she want´s to be a Superior) make her perpetual vows as a Carmelite. After perpetual vows she can be elected as a "mother superior".
The question is also if she ever lived the life of reclusion, that is the Heart of a true Carmelite Life.

In the Cross is salvation; in the Cross is life; in the Cross is protection against our enemies; in the Cross is infusion of heavenly sweetness.." Thomas à Kempis

So many good points, but I guess I'll have to go with this as the most important!

People get caught up in emotion -- nuns are good, monasteries are good, etc. -- but obedience and the will of God come first.

We should have AN OUNCE OF TRUST at least for our faithful Bishops. Why are some people second-guessing them at every turn? Haven't certain bishops (+Williamson for example) proven by now, after all these decades of sacrifice and service, which side he's on? He has certainly proven that he takes his job seriously. Why can't we let him make his own decisions? He knows all too well that He is responsible to God for his decisions.

Just because you disagree with a decision of his doesn't mean that he is objectively at risk for the Judgment or something. Each of us is not God. Disagreeing with us is NOT the same as disagreeing with God. It sounds basic and obvious, but you really need to think about it!

  • Pious does NOT always equal "God's will"

For example, I knew a married woman at a Trad chapel who used to pray various prayers after Mass with a young man who wasn't her husband. They ended up having an affair. Were their pious prayers after Mass the will of God? No.

Let that sink into your head. Saying devout prayers after Mass with a certain individual was not the will of God for this woman.

There is an order to things, and it's not as simple as everyone thinks. How well do any of us actually know this Mother Irene? Did any of us know she was already a perpetually professed Benedictine? I certainly didn't know that.

That's why we should all collectively MIND OUR OWN BUSINESS and let Bishop Williamson do his job! And yes, I'm looking at you Samuel!

  • Excellent points Catholicus and Matthew. Thank you for making them so well. Poor Mr Loeman is getting over emotional as he often does, and his daughter being present in this 'convent' has clouded his judgement on the case.

Those who know this Sister Irene would agree that she is not suited to be the foundress of an Order at all judging by her past record. I also find it suspicious how someone could be a Benedictine for so many years and then change overnight to become a Carmelite and then dream up some new Carmelite Order. All most strange and how good to see that Bishop Williamson is so wary of her. That demonstrates solid episcopal sense.

  • I knew a woman who had always desired to become a Carmelite nun, but at every monastery she had visited, they always rejected her.

She eventually was accepted at a Dominican cloister and became a perpetually professed Dominican nun. Then she was made a Novice Mistress.

She told her Dominican novices that she had always had an attraction to St. Therese, the Little Flower. She sounded somewhat bitter about not being accepted as a Carmelite. This was not a good situation neither for her nor for her novices.
    Lord have mercy.
