  • 1. For those involved with Resistance or independent Traditional Catholic chapels, remember to order your Palms for Palm Sunday!

    Someone wrote to me:

    Quote
The last two years someone forgot to buy palms for their chapel and were panicking at the last moment. Perhaps you would like to open a thread with a reminder. Most religious catalogs have it. The most common is AUTOM 1-800-521-2914 the item # for one bag (100 palms) is 61802 @ $12.99

    2. Also don't forget the purple fabric you need to cover all the sacred images in your chapels (except for the Stations of the Cross) in time for Passion Sunday.

    3. Don't forget to set your clocks ahead 1 hour this Saturday night! This is a big one. This is the one where you LOSE an hour, and will be 1 hour late for Mass if you forget. (In the Fall it's the opposite; you gain an hour and forgetful types will merely be 1 hour early for Mass.)

  • We were an hour late for Mass last year, because I wasn't aware that "today's the day" to spring forward. No one reminded me about the time change. I got on CathInfo when I got home and ranted about it :)

A year previous, it also took me COMPLETELY by surprise, but at least I caught it right before bed.

You'd think it would be impossible to miss, but it happened to me large as life. I read CNN and other news sites, but unfortunately I'm home a lot, even for work. I have no co-workers.

  • Also, If the palms were shipped, take them out of the box (not the plastic wrap) and keep them cool or you'll have a moldy mess in a week.

You should also empty your Holy Water fonts - some put sand in them where practical.

Also, you should cover or remove votive candles during Passiontide.

    Where do they use sand?

In the Traditional chapels I've attended (which are quite numerous), the only time the holy water font contains anything other than holy water is around the Triduum (Holy Thursday, or maybe it's Good Friday) when it's emptied. But then it has NOTHING in it, not sand!

I meant to say that they are emptied for the Triduum - not Passion Sunday. I am trying to remember where sand was used. I want to say that it was either at Fr. Ringrose's chapel or St. Hilary's in Baltimore, but I cant be sure of that. I'll ask some of my friends there.

A quick Google search shows that it is practiced in some places. Apparently, Fr. Z refers to it as idiocy and liturgically abusive to even remove Holy Water, let alone put sand in the font.

  • If someone forgot to order palms, do it now or a Catholic shop may have it. Ours arrived today from our supplier.

Last year, when we had Holy Week here, we got our palms from some of our neighbors' palm trees! :)

I drove around and asked various neighbors if I could cut some branches off their palm trees. We live in Texas, where a lot of people have palm trees in their yards.

This year Fr. Garcia is going to bring the already-blessed palms from Houston.
