Families with children who are unable to control themselves due to age or just general nautiness should use a crying room. Your faith won't be endangered if you are in another room during Mass. Show some consideration for those who are there to pray and meditate. This is not the novus ordo communal meal. It is the the unbloody Sacrifice at Calvary. Show respect to others and Our Lord by going to another room.
FYI--Telesphorus...I've listened to the recordings on very high quality headphones and I have the top of the line audio software and I have to agree with the OP. Noise reduction is not possible if the babies are screaming loudly.
Whatever happened to staying home with young children? That's how they did it in the olden days.
I have to disagree with your last statement.
My wife would be a home aloner for 7 years' running -- and probably many years to come -- if we did that. With all the work and stress of raising a large family, don't you think she needs the grace of the Sacraments?
Maybe that's how it was done in the 50's, but I happen to know that by the 50's, family size had already gone down by almost 50%.
(Referring to "white" Americans:)
Originally, families were larger (7 or more children)
WW2 generation tended to have around 5 children.
Baby Boomers tended to have 2-4 children.
Today, couples seem to have 0 or 2.
That having been said, a baby "screaming loudly" or crying loudly should be taken out of the Church until the worst has passed. And I'm talking about
even if the chapel doesn't have a cry room. For most people, that is common sense. A bit of talking, whispering, fussing, whimpering, etc. is a different story.
Another note: if the child is older than 2 or 3, the parents SHOULD have some control over their child's behavior. A
baby can't be slapped for crying. A three-year-old can and SHOULD be physically chastised for making too much noise during Mass.
