  • Quote from: Vatican Radio article
Sigrid Spath translated in these cases [docuмents written by the Pope in Italian] the German Pope into German. One of her favorite books was Ratzinger's "Introduction to Christianity", dozens of copies of which she gave to Protestant students visiting Rome.

As Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger charged her personally with the German version of particularly sensitive docuмents, such as his response to the objections of Protestant theologians to the Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification of 1999. It was also Cardinal Ratzinger who, according to her own testimony, advised Sigrid Spath to remain a Protestant, and not to convert to the Catholic Church, as she had considered in a moment of crisis. She could do more for both churches if she remained a Protestant, said the Cardinal. The Carinthian remained in the Protestant Christuskirche in Rome [the Evangelical-Lutheran community of Rome] throughout her life.

  • The person that you have on your signature, Fr. Garrigou-Lagrange, could have given the same advice as Ratzinger, so aren't you just splitting hairs?

    Quote
From LaGrange's book Life Everlasting, under the chapter "The Number of The Elect" is the following:

..."Further, among non-Christians (Jєωs, Mohammedans, pagans) there are souls which are elect.  Jєωs and Mohammedans not only admit monotheism, but retain fragments of primitive revelation and of Mosaic revelation.  They believe in a God who is a supernatural rewarder, and can thus, with the aid of grace, make an act of contrition.  And even for pagans, who live in invincible, involuntary ignorance of the true religion, and who still attempt to observe the natural law, supernatural aids are offered, by means known to God.  These, as Pius IX says, can arrive at salvation.  God never commands the impossible.  To him who does what is in his power God does not refuse grace."

  • There's no Salvation outside the Church. And here, we have a Prince of the Church confirming the poor woman in her error and allowing Her to die in her false religion.

    A disgrace.

  • As Benedict XVI, Cardinal Ratzinger became "The Pope of Tradition" - as the book written by Fr Gregoire Celier of the SSPX was titled. Bishop Fellay personally approved this book.

  • Sounds like Bishop Fellay was way out of his league from the very start trying to somehow out-maneuver a true seasoned master of practical deals.

  • I think the most interesting issue raised in this thread is whether GLG was accurately quoting Pius IX.

  • This is not surprising. It is like how they treated the protestant, brother Roger who ran the Taize community. They didn't try to convert him and they even gave him holy communion, unconverted.

Also, it seems that Fr. Garrigou-Lagrange believes like Fellay that souls can be saved who believe in false religions and not only those unbaptized who believe in the true religion and desire baptism.
    R.I.P.
Please pray for the repose of my soul.
