    I'll kick it of with Milton's Paradise Lost (end of Book 5; beginning of Book 6):

    Abdiel the angel, initially joining Satan's revolt repents, repents and withstands Satan, and joins God's army.

    Strictly speaking, that's heretical, because the angels could not repent, but this is epic poetry, and the example reminds me of Lefebvre, Williamson, and Vigano:

    O alienate from God, O spirit accurst,
    Forsak'n of all good; I see thy fall
    Determind, and thy hapless crew involv'd
    In this perfidious fraud, contagion spred
    Both of thy crime and punishment: henceforth
    No more be troubl'd how to quit the yoke
    Of Gods Messiah; those indulgent Laws
    Will not now be voutsaf't, other Decrees
    Against thee are gon forth without recall;
    That Golden Scepter which thou didst reject
    Is now an Iron Rod to bruise and breake
    Thy disobedience. Well thou didst advise,
    Yet not for thy advise or threats I fly
    These wicked Tents devoted, least the wrauth
    Impendent, raging into sudden flame
    Distinguish not: for soon expect to feel
    His Thunder on thy head, devouring fire.
    Then who created thee lamenting learne,
    When who can uncreate thee thou shalt know.

    So spake the Seraph Abdiel faithful found,
    Among the faithless, faithful only hee;
    Among innumerable false, unmov'd,
    Unshak'n, unseduc'd, unterrifi'd
    His Loyaltie he kept, his Love, his Zeale;
    Nor number, nor example with him wrought
    To swerve from truth, or change his constant mind
    Though single.
    From amidst them forth he passd,
    Long way through hostile scorn, which he susteind
    Superior, nor of violence fear'd aught;
    And with retorted scorn his back he turn'd
    On those proud Towrs to swift destruction doom'd.

    ALL night the dreadless Angel unpursu'd
    Through Heav'ns wide Champain held his way, till Morn,
    Wak't by the circling Hours, with rosie hand
    Unbarr'd the gates of Light.
    There is a Cave
    Within the Mount of God, fast by his Throne,
    Where light and darkness in perpetual round
    Lodge and dislodge by turns, which makes through Heav'n
    Grateful vicissitude, like Day and Night;
    Light issues forth, and at the other dore
    Obsequious darkness enters, till her houre
    To veile the Heav'n, though darkness there might well
    Seem twilight here;
    and now went forth the Morn
    Such as in highest Heav'n, arrayd in Gold
    Empyreal, from before her vanisht Night,
    Shot through with orient Beams: when all the Plain
    Coverd with thick embatteld Squadrons bright,
    Chariots and flaming Armes, and fierie Steeds
    Reflecting blaze on blaze, first met his view:
    Warr he perceav'd, warr in procinct, and found
    Already known what he for news had thought
    To have reported: gladly then he mixt
    Among those friendly Powers who him receav'd
    With joy and acclamations loud, that one
    That of so many Myriads fall'n, yet one
    Returnd not lost: On to the sacred hill
    They led him high applauded, and present
    Before the seat supream; from whence a voice
    From midst a Golden Cloud thus milde was heard.

    Servant of God, well done, well hast thou fought
    The better fight, who single hast maintaind
    Against revolted multitudes the Cause
    Of Truth, in word mightier then they in Armes ;
    And for the testimonie of Truth hast born
    Universal reproach, far worse to beare
    Then violence: for this was all thy care
    To stand approv'd in sight of God, though Worlds
    Judg'd thee perverse:
    the easier conquest now
    Remains thee, aided by this host of friends,
    Back on thy foes more glorious to return
    Then scornd thou didst depart, and to subdue
    By force, who reason for thir Law refuse,
    Right reason for thir Law, and for thir King
    Messiah, who by right of merit Reigns.
    Go Michael of Celestial Armies Prince,
    And thou in Military prowess next
    Gabriel, lead forth to Battel these my Sons
    Invincible, lead forth my armed Saints
    By Thousands and by Millions rang'd for fight;
    Equal in number to that Godless crew
    Rebellious, them with Fire and hostile Arms
    Fearless assault, and to the brow of Heav'n
    Pursuing drive them out from God and bliss,
    Into thir place of punishment, the Gulf
    Of Tartarus, which ready opens wide
    His fiery Chaos to receave thir fall.
    Rom 5: 20 - "But where sin increased, grace abounded all the more."

    Paradise Lost was on the index, heretic.

    If I can give up Montaigne, you can give up Milton. Pascal's Pensees were also on the index.

  • The Armor of God
    10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities,against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist,with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
    18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. 19 Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.
    May God bless you and keep you

  • The Kings

    Famous poet /
    Louise Imogen Guiney

    A man said unto his Angel:
    "My spirits are fallen low,
    And I cannot carry this battle:
    O brother! where might I go?

    "The terrible Kings are on me
    With spears that are deadly bright;
    Against me so from the cradle
    Do fate and my fathers fight."

    Then said to the man his Angel:
    "Thou wavering, witless soul,
    Back to the ranks!  What matter
    To win or to lose the whole,

    "As judged by the little judges
    Who hearken not well, nor see?
    Not thus, by the outer issue,
    The Wise shall interpret thee.

    "Thy will is the sovereign measure
    And only events of things:
    The puniest heart, defying,
    Were stronger than all these Kings.

    "Though out of the past they gather,
    Mind's Doubt, and Bodily Pain,
    And pallid Thirst of the Spirit
    That is kin to the other twain,

    "And Grief, in a cloud of banners,
    And ringletted Vain Desires,
    And Vice, with the spoils upon him
    Of thee and thy beaten sires, --

    "While Kings of eternal evil
    Yet darken the hills about,
    Thy part is with broken sabre
    To rise on the last redoubt;

    "To fear not sensible failure,
    Nor covet the game at all,
    But fighting, fighting, fighting,
    Die, driven against the wall."

  • The Full Armor of God
    10Finally, brethren, be strengthened in the Lord, and in the might of his power.  11Put you on the armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the deceits of the devil.  12For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood; but against principalities and power, against the rulers of the world of this darkness, against the spirits of wickedness in the high places. 13Therefore take unto you the armour of God, that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and to stand in all things perfect.  14Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of justice, 15And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace:  16In all things taking the shield of faith, wherewith you may be able to extinguish all the fiery darts of the most wicked one.  17And take unto you the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit (which is the word of God).
    Pray Continually
    18By all prayer and supplication praying at all times in the spirit; and in the same watching with all instance and supplication for all the saints:  19And for me, that speech may be given me, that I may open my mouth with confidence, to make known the mystery of the gospel.  20For which I am an ambassador in a chain, so that therein I may be bold to speak according as I ought.
    Ephesians 6:10

    No thumbs up for the Word of God- the greatest of them all?  This should prepare any Christian for battle.
    (Poetry doesn’t always have to rhyme.)

    May God bless you and keep you

  • Psalm 143

    [1] Blessed be the Lord my God, who teacheth my hands to fight, and my fingers to war. [2] My mercy, and my refuge: my support, and my deliverer: My protector, and I have hoped in him: who subdueth my people under me. [3] Lord, what is man, that thou art made known to him? or the son of man, that thou makest account of him? [4] Man is like to vanity: his days pass away like a shadow. [5] Lord, bow down thy heavens and descend: touch the mountains and they shall smoke.

    [6] Send forth lightning, and thou shalt scatter them: shoot out thy arrows, and thou shalt trouble them. [7] Put forth thy hand from on high, take me out, and deliver me from many waters: from the hand of strange children: [8] Whose mouth hath spoken vanity: and their right hand is the right hand of iniquity. [9] To thee, O God, I will sing a new canticle: on the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings I will sing praises to thee. [10]Who givest salvation to kings: who hast redeemed thy servant David from the malicious sword:

    [11] Deliver me, And rescue me out of the hand of strange children; whose mouth hath spoken vanity: and their right hand is the right hand of iniquity: [12] Whose sons are as new plants in their youth: Their daughters decked out, adorned round about after the similitude of a temple: [13] Their storehouses full, flowing out of this into that. Their sheep fruitful in young, abounding in their goings forth: [14] Their oxen fat. There is no breach of wall, nor passage, nor crying out in their streets. [15] They have called the people happy, that hath these things: but happy is that people whose God is the Lord.

  • Speaking of which, where is this weeks?

    I’m guessing it’s delayed because of the Walsingham pilgrimage:
