Off topic, but do you recall ex-seminarian David Sansome's ability to quite accurately mimic the voice of Bp. Williamson?
Yes. So, another one who could imitate pretty much anyone was my brother Steve ... and could imitate both speaking voices and singing voices. So, later when Father Peter Scott was no longer a professor there, quite a few seminarians had never met him, but Father Scott was coming into town to do the weekend Masses, give a couple talks, etc. So Steve started imitating Father Scott perfectly, including a very distinct intonation of the "Gloria in Excelsis Deo" in Father Scott's inimitable style (well, except for Steve), and Steve added the facial expressions Father Scott liked to make. So then at High Mass on Sunday, Father Scott goes to intone the Gloria and you could see about a dozen seminarians clearly needing to bite their tongues in half to keep from laughing out loud, some of them turning red, since Steve had gotten it perfect.
He did that once for Father Leo Carley, who also had a very unique way of singing the "Exsultet" at the Easter Vigil, and Father's voice is also very distinctive. So Steve was imitating him before we went to serve Easter Vigil Mass. Then, when Father Carley started singing, we were the ones nearly doubled over and biting our tongues ... even though we knew Father Carley and his tone did not come as a surprise, but Steve had hit it so perfectly that we almost couldn't help laughing out loud. Why it was so amusing is that Father actually butchered the Excultet melody with his own version that flattened out a lot of the ups and downs (reducing it almost to a semi-monotone). Steve got every individual note correct, just as Father would go on to render it. Not sure where he figured it out since we only hear the Exsultet once a year.
Speaking of Steve and Bishop Williamson ... one time Steve and I were looking at the bulletin board there with various announcements, and Bishop Williamson came up behind us and started talking to us about something. He got very close to where he was right in our faces. After he walks away, Steve turns to me and says, with shock, and practically breathless, "Bishop Williamson has an ENORMOUS [his emphasis] head. His head is SOOOO big. I didn't realize it until he came up this close." Indeed, His Excellency had quite the cranial capacity and made the fullest use of it.
