Dear CI posters, I'm sorry for the thread about priests being martyred.  My pride got away from me and I acted carelessly, without forethought to the lack of charity that could be generated.  Since it is still on the site, please delete it, if you are able, or ignore it if not.  I requested Matthew get rid of it, but either he chose to leave it or is away right now, probably the latter as he hasn't posted recently.

I humbly request the forgiveness of Our Lord, the priests mentioned by name, and those who are offended.  Give me as many down-thumbs as you think I deserve.
     :incense:
    I'm going to Confession tomorrow.

St. Francis Xavier threw a Crucifix into the sea, at once calming the waves.  Upon reaching the shore, the Crucifix was returned to him by a crab with a curious cross pattern on its shell.

  • Frances,

You are not the first or last person to impulsively post something.  It happens all the time.

  • Dear Frances:

We are all sinners and we make mistakes.

I like you. You are a kind and wise person.

     :dancing-banana: :dancing-banana: :dancing-banana: :dancing-banana:

I need to go to confession too.

Oh, that's a plan:  you can go to confession later -- and then not
only would you get to do the sin in the first place, "it will give you
more graces that if you had done nothing wrong" to begin with!

One problem with that:  in order for your confession to be VALID,
you will have to confess that you PLANNED on doing this evil thing
and then going to confession later.  If that is the truth, and you
don't mention it to your confessor, even if he absolves you, your
    sin is not forgiven
because the confession isn't valid, due to the
fact that you failed to tell the priest that you had planned on
confessing the sin later before you committed the sin in the first
    place.

Oh dear, I now have thirty years of invalid Confessions to confess! I always plan to confess sins later, and so does everyone else - unless they're planning to leave the Church instead and never go to Confession again!

We should plan as if we won't have the opportunity to go to Confession later.  Better not to sin!  St. Paul said, "Shall we sin that grace should abound? God forbid!"

A general confession is a good idea.

I never had the impression that Frances felt the thread was wrong from the start, but deliberately posted it anyway, thinking she could just confess it later.

I got the impression that after she started the thread and saw where it was going, upon further reflection she decided that it wasn't such a good idea and perhaps a matter for confession. The fact that she would go to confession "tomorrow" was simply related to the fact that many of us only have the sacraments once a week, and that was the earliest opportunity.

Often an examination of conscience brings to mind an action that at the time it was done did not register as a "problem", but upon later reflection looks like a matter for confession.

    I get it, but....

Each Catholic should ask themselves if they are in need of a general confession.

  •  :dancing:  Sienna629 is correct.  I realized AFTERWARDS that it was a bad idea.  Now, please let it go.  I went to Confession; received absolution,; it's over!
