  • Again, I need assistance here!

I have palm branches that look like this

Do I just pull them off the stem and put them in a pile? They aren't already pre-bound in stems, they're the plant like that. So um, when do I detach them from the stem? Like, should I do that NOW, on Saturday morning? They're very green. Fresh. I have them in water right now...

  • I have a similar query: in Malta on Palm Sunday, olive branches are blessed and distributed to the faithful.

Once at home, what's the use of them? Are they a sort of sacramental?

  • I say the greener the better. Ours are still on the stem in a dark, coolish place right now. They were cut off the plant yesterday. We'll be taking them apart later this evening.

  • Blessed palms are a sacramental.  When brought home from Mass they are to be placed on and behind hanging crucifixes

The next year they are to be taken to church around septuagesima Sunday so the priest can burn them and use the ashes for Ash Wednesday.
