Truth and error nº 32 (Pastoral Newsletter de Mons. De Castro Mayer) June 1953

True sentence: “Union in charity is the natural fruit of having union in the Truth, what matters most of all is to keep the integrity of our faith, without which no one can please God (St. Paul to the Hebrews XI,6)1”

Wrong sentence: “It is more convenient to keep souls in the union of charity than in the union in the truth”

    Dear friends and benefactors:

By the grace and the will of God, and thanks to your help, the Monastery of San José keeps growing and persevering in its fight against modernist Goliath through the seemingly weak and almost extinct integrity of the faith.

Our holy father Saint Benedict establishes the bases upon which this triumph of truth, of our faith shall succeed, saying to us in his holy Rule:

If “we wish to arrive quickly to that heavenly exaltation, to which we climb up by humility in the present life; as ‘that ladder which appeared in dreams to Jacob’, that descending and ascending is no other thing than this: that by self-exaltation we descend and by humility we ascend” (Chap. 7,5-7).

Humility is to move inside reality, within that truth which tells us that God is everything and that we are nothing, and that nevertheless “we can do all things in Him who strengthens me”2.

This is humility, to move oneself within God, to work for God and do nothing for ourselves.

Humility is to enthrone Jesus Christ as king and to become His servants.

Humility is to strive to please God in all things instead of pleasing ourselves or men, for men´s sake.

Humility is, then, “to keep the integrity of our faith, without which no one can please God”.3

In the same way humility causes us to climb up, so it is also the case when we keep up the combat for the integrity of our faith, the combat for the truth. The defense of our faith is by principle and of necessity the way wanted by God in order to arrive to Heaven. And no one has the right, under any excuse, to modify this ascending way; because “not to advance in the way to Heaven is to go backwards”. And for that very reason the way of pride, of self-exaltation, is a way not of reality but rather of illusion, not of truth but of error. This way consists in not to serve God, but rather to serve our pride, to serve creatures. This is the way of damnation, a descending way which does not seek to serve God but man.

In our spiritual warfare, not to go forward is to go backwards. Not to serve Christ the King at any cost or humiliation, means to serve an idol with our pride. As Saint Pius X teaches to us: “Not to combat error (which opposes to our going forward), is to approve it”.

For that reason we should only seek the enemies of Christ and deal with them in order to convert them, so that they may ascend, so that they may serve Christ the King. Never are we allowed to betray the faith by descending together with our enemies in order “to help” them. Never can we do that, the end does not justifies the means taken, “God gives his grace only to the humble, while he resists the proud”.

Then it is a matter of principle to approach the enemies of Christ only with the intention of drawing them towards the truth, of placing them on the ascending ladder, so that they may receive indeed the grace of God and be able eventually to ascend to the Kingdom of Christ, which on earth is the Catholic Church, outside of which there is not salvation.

Pope Francis says: “There is not a Catholic God”, by saying this he is showing that he is neither living nor teaching the truth, our faith. He is indeed “descending” and together with him they are also “descending” all those who follow him blindly.

Mons. Fellay says concerning his dealings with Rome: “When two armies are in dealings of peace, there is a truce, and it is not licit to attack one to the other in the meanwhile”. In the first place, how there can be talks about peace, while modernist Rome is rejecting the peace of Christ, the Spirit of Truth, Who is the Holy Ghost? This attitude is to be liberal like Pope Francis, because he is not guiding himself by the principles of truth, of the faith, and therefore neither by the principles of charity.

For that reason, as stated by Mons. De Castro Mayer, as a matter of principle, the only kind of union possible is the union in the truth, in reality, in the faith, into which we enter and ascend through humility, because God gives his grace to the humble. Union in charity only can exist as a consequence and as a fruit of that union in the Truth, which is Christ. Therefore it is an illusion, a lie, to intend any other kind of union outside the truth.

Whoever does not live “with and for” the truth and humility of Christ and of his Most Holy Mother, that one will not have part in that love of God which is fruit of the truth.

For that reason dialogue, ecuмenism, liberty, because they are outside the truth, outside the faith, they only can be weapons of delusion and of the appearances which liberals use frequently, causing people to go further from God, making out of them slaves either of sin or of lies.

Only humility, only the truth, can make Christ reign over us. Only humility and union in the faith can beget true charity. They are the only way to arrive to life everlasting.

Any other intended union outside truth becomes an illicit union, adulterous, forbidden by God.

May God enlighten our minds through the Holy Ghost in this Octave of Pentecost’s so that we may be led by the Spirit of Truth and not by the diabolical spirit of lies, which reigns everywhere.

We ask to all our friends and benefactors to keep helping us, especially with their prayers, so that we may keep up the fight so essential of preserving the integrity of our faith.

We assure you of our daily prayers for each one of you. We send you our blessing.

    Padre Rafael, O.S.B.

We conclude logically that religion can give an efficacious and truly realistic answer to the great modern problems only if it is a religion that is profoundly lived, not simply a superficial and cheap religion made up of some vocal prayers and some ceremonies...
