I spoke with probably the same person who has been visiting Pablo, and told me precisely the same thing. She is a devout prayerful woman, and I know she reads most of my many posts of Mass, Divine Office, saints, novenas, and other prayers for over a period of time. I am completely boring to people who are not praying consistently, as that is most of what I post. So I trust what she said to me.

Perhaps knowing that many were upset by his actions, Pablo wished to seem more sympathetic by having a very ill son, when the son was moderately ill. I do know the illness has been of long duration. And Santiago and Pablo still do need our prayers for many reasons.

I guess all those implying that the son was not really sick are "eating crow" as he is now dead.

The young man had the right to Catholics having genuine concern for his soul and well being. This was denied him in some cases due to suspicion of his Father and his associates.
This was clearly wrong, morally and as a matter of Christian charity.
One may gain merit from believing that another is mortally ill when told so, and then praying for their recovery or their eternity, but Heaven's opprobrium falls upon he who doubted and caused others to doubt, when that soul passed from this life due to that same illness.

The whole Hernandez family requires our prayers and our sacrifices. This has no doubt been a difficult time, and their difficulties are far from over.

Santiago was a good young man, and he struggled to survive with every breath. He clung to life, and stayed as close to God as possible. He was given the sacraments, and offered his suffering for those who are in most need of mercy.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord.
