  • To add to my thoughts earlier --

It reminds me of this parable of Our Lord (Matthew chapter 21):

A certain man had two sons; and coming to the first, he said: Son, go work today in my vineyard. [29] And he answering, said: I will not. But afterwards, being moved with repentance, he went. [30] And coming to the other, he said in like manner. And he answering, said: I go, Sir; and he went not. [31] Which of the two did the father's will? They say to him: The first.

In other words -- what matters is helping out in the vineyard. Talk is cheap. Gaudy protestations that you will go mean NOTHING if you don't actually go.

But the second should be given credit for doing the Father's will "by desire".  He had the votum to do it, so it should have counted.  :laugh1:

  • But I can't rule it out though.  He might have come there with Fr. Joseph Pfeiffer. This was 2003 remember.

I certainly can't rule it out either especially due to the fact that at that time Fr. Joseph Pfeiffer was still the pastor of Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Phoenix and Pablo who was living in Phoenix had already established himself as a sort of de facto top advisor/"chief of staff" to Fr. Pfeiffer.   I should know since my wife and I were regular attendees at the aforesaid church at that time as well as being involved in various extra curricular activities at the church.  Aside from the Pablo connection imo Fr. Pfeiffer was a wonderful pastor.  He did a lot of good during his time at Our Lady of Sorrows.

  • Matthew, thank you for this. Nothing can ever compare to the Winona Years. Invaluable formation under Bp. Williamson. Happiest time of my life. Miss it so much.

  • This brings back great memories of some of the happiest times of my life.  Thank you for posting it.  I was there about 10-12 years before this video, but I can't imagine that the neo-SSPX seminarians after Bishop Williamson's departure had anything near he experience you and I had there at STAS.
I only had one year with him, sadly. I had just finished my Humanities year in June 2003, when we learned of his transfer, but it was a spiritual treasure. I didn't realize it at the time, having been brought up with the new mass, etc. I had a hard time accepting all of the different aspects of tradition back then, being only 21, and immature. Looking back, he was spot on in what he said about many men having a "temporary vocation," as he termed it. Had I not had formation under his direction, and the Society, there's no way I'd still have the faith, let alone be a Catholic husband and father.

  • The thing Bp. W says in this video are as relevant today as they were in 2003.

    https://odysee.com/@CathInfo:a/A-Tribute-to-Bishop-Williamson:3

Notice his wet blanket treatment of Card. Castrillon Hoyos and the "talks with Rome" back in the early 2000s. This was NINE YEARS before 2012, when knowledge about GREC and the new SSPX orientation was blown wide open. Bp. W was a "wet blanket" or a "party pooper" from Day One about the talks with Rome. I remember thinking this to myself. I remember wanting to get excited about Rome accepting the SSPX, and the SSPX being big stars helping everyone back to Tradition -- and I would be one of them! Very tempting to human nature. So I can relate. The mindset is not completely foreign to me. But I was only 24 years old! An ignorant youth.

But I don't think it got past the stage of "temptation". I never accepted it. What helped me reject the temptation? Years of teaching by REAL Trads, like Thomas A. Nelson, who taught me Catechism for years, including the JQ, the money system, who runs the world, and other important topics. I was primed to believe in cօռspιʀαcιҽs. I knew who infiltrated the Church. I knew the nature of the Crisis. So I was inclined to accept +W's "negative" take on the Talks with Rome.

My point -- Bp. Williamson was right about this. You can criticize him if you must, but you have to admit he was right about this. He saw this coming a mile away.

And of course, all his teaching prowess, demonstrated here about Modernism, is legendary. He teaches the very confusing and complex subject of Modernism with pure genius.

  • I wonder how many full length recordings of Bishop Williamson Sestak still has?

It is like how so many abandoned Archbishop Lefebvre where he ended up alone standing against modernism.

I also think, no matter what one thinks of Trump, how Pence betrayed Trump by not sticking with him till the end.

Loyalty to the Catholic faith will produce true loyalty among true Catholics.

Now what comes to mind as well is how it is so easy to stand up for something when the conditions make it easy. I think of how some time back in recent time when one and then a few of the Novus Ordo bishops excommunicated Nancy Peℓσѕι, but that was because the first one who did it had enough support behind him to do it. I mean that should not stop a bishop from carrying out his duty either way, if a bishop. I realized this recently, even though I had at first lauded such prelates for the excommunication, but I see it was not really that brave a thing.

Bishop Williamson on the other hand, stood up for the truth no matter if it was convenient or not.

Well said, Keph - Vatican IIb with BW the new ABL equivalent. I remember some journalist saying to ABL that he was the only bishop against the whole Church. He replied: that is not true, but even if I were the only soul in the whole world, it would make no difference... that is the attitude we should all have viz a viz the truth. The martyr's spirit...

  • I cherish my time at Winona in those very early years that the seminary was located there in the old Dominican novitiate building. What I learned from Msgr. Williamson formed me for life.

It's a nice video.  I wish it were a bit longer, and I find the background music to be a bit too loud compared to Bishop Williamson's voice.

  • Something else I noticed today --

The beginning part, "Alone, outnumbered, exiled, but having the TRUTH" is SO MUCH MORE true today than it was in 2003!

Sure, vis-a-vis the World +W is about as reviled as ever. Maybe a bit more, as he's been banned from several countries esp. since the infamous German media interview in 2009. But in 2003 he had a LOT more Trad Catholic friends (in the SSPX) than he has today. He's literally been exiled from the SSPX, and many former friends have betrayed him.

Another thing: did anyone notice this video is almost exactly 20 years old? It speaks of Bishop Williamson's "20 years of faithful service" but it's been another 20 years since this video was made!

At the end, note the creation date of the video: July 25, 2003.

It reminds me of the factoid that Patrick Stewart -- the "old" captain -- was 46 when Star Trek: TNG first aired. Kind of scary in a way.
