  • If anything significant happens at your chapel after the 2014 SSPX Priest Transfers (taking place August 15, 2014), please post it here.

This thread is for sharing any special announcements from the pulpit, announcements in the bulletin, policy changes, or anything that touches on the SSPX Crisis and the Resistance.

If a new Prior or District Superior makes policy changes, or re-assigns individual priests to different Mass Centers within a given Priory's coverage area, that is also significant.

The news can be good or bad.

It's obvious that when you have an unstable situation like the current situation in the SSPX, "news" is inevitable. We're not at a stable point, so things are going to happen and move forward from time to time.

It's logical that when priests are moved around a lot of things will change.

The neo-SSPX is as relevant today as the FSSP in its fight for the Catholic Faith whole and inviolate, despite some good individual priests.

Don't kid yourself. The SSPX is not equal to the FSSP right now.

Perhaps there is no fundamental difference in the direction they are heading -- but just the fact that the FSSP has had this position since 1988 and the SSPX has only had this position since 2012 is already quite a large difference.

That's like saying a man who has killed one or two men is the same as Charles Manson, a mass-murderer who's already been judged (and is likely in Hell).

No, the former is still struggling. He might end up in the same place as the latter. Eventually. But for the former, there is still a fight going on within. There is still much goodness that must be decisively driven out.

For starters, in the case of the SSPX there could still be quite a few priests clinging to "the old ways" even though they're not willing to leave the organization. This whole Pro-Rome thing is very recent to the organization. The FSSP is publicly known to be in union with Rome and was founded for that purpose from the beginning. Whatever "deal without a deal" the SSPX has, it's certainly not well-known. There's yet another point of difference.

The SSPX is many times larger than the FSSP, due to the former's uncompromising Trad "laurels", heritage, reputation, whatever you want to call it.

So they're not the same right now.

Eventually, the SSPX will distill into something stable. Either all the pro-Rome liberals will be kicked out and it will return to its former glory (fat chance), or the remaining Trad vestiges (including any truly Trad priests) will depart, and it will become direct competition for the FSSP and be indistinguishable from the FSSP in its priests, apostolate, parishioners, etc.

I believe the latter is more likely. However, it's going to take some time to get to that point. We're certainly not there yet, even if things are bad in your neck of the woods, you've stopped attending/totally given up on SSPX, etc.

Your subjective, local reality does not form the world-wide, objective reality. I'm sorry to burst your bubble.

Matthew refers to the big picture.  Perhaps in any specific location "many things" won't change, but worldwide, one or two changes in each chapel where priests were transferred adds up to many things changing overall.

It seems to me that the removal of a good pastor and the re-assignment of a new pastor can be a "COVER" for the changes in praxis. They'll make the changes somewhat subtly so the word can be, "Well, he's a new pastor:  you'd have to expect a FEW differences in his approach to things;  he has his own personality!"

Incidentally, changes in praxis based on a different personality was not what ABL taught:  "I pass on down to my flock that which I had received."

  • twentyfive years ago, the priests of sspx all had different personalities, and for about fifteen years, everything stayed the same. now the sspx has changed, and the priests all have the same personalities. :pc:

  • Militia Jesu, don't worry. I'm not accusing you of mortal sin for staying home from your SSPX chapel. You really don't have to be so defensive :)

But you honestly didn't do a very good job of refuting or nullifying anything I wrote. Your post was not a very good one. I'm not just saying that because I disagree with you.

You just wrote "something" in response to each sentence. That's not the same as writing a refutation. I don't have time to analyze which particular logical fallacies you used, but you mostly argued against me with arguments I agree with, or arguments that are "neither here nor there"! That is VERY annoying on a forum, as it makes for a very nonsensical debate.

Of course the wolves are after a large group like the SSPX.

Some of your responses were so "out there" I couldn't even figure out what you were getting at.

I agree the SSPX Crisis goes up to the very top. It is not a local crisis. However, there are pockets where things are exactly the same as they were 8 years ago. It's hard to imagine something different from your own situation (I know; many people are this way. It's human nature, and not your fault) but you'll have to trust me on this one. I (for example) would be quite remiss if I left my SSPX chapel.

And "boiling frog" my butt. When a frog is in a pot of cold water and the heat hasn't even been turned on yet, the frog is quite safe. Maybe the frog can consider hopping out once the cook turns the burner on. It's not like there are a few little changes that have already taken place. We're talking ZERO changes -- so the water is the same temperature as the tap at this point! If the SSPX Crisis were Vatican II, we'd be at the 1962 liturgy. How many Trads left the "Conciliar Church" in 1962? I certainly wouldn't have.

When a person is speechless, and has no substantial retort to offer for a given point which is so obvious and clear, that doesn't mean he won't make a valiant attempt! I've seen this thousands of times in my life, in a wide variety of venues. Never underestimate human stubbornness. That is what you have done in your post.

Anyhow, this is a thread I started specifically to chronicle any changes happening in the SSPX, particularly after the 2014 Transfers. So your whole "SSPX is a Red Light" post was most off-topic, and has been dealt with appropriately. If you want to start another "Red Light/Yellow Light" debate thread, be my guest.

The same will happen to any other Off Topic posts.
