Folks, there's a new article on the SSPX website that is (cautiously) critical of Pope Francis' pontificate thus far. Here's the link:
http://www.sspx.org/miscellaneous/will_pope_francis_be_able_to_rebuild_the_church_5-8-2013.htmThe article touches on various points we could agree with as far as what a disaster Francis is turning out to be. However, there are a couple of critical points that tripped my wires as I went through it. Here they are:
1. The article employs the erroneous and naïve assumption that Benedict XVI somehow at least tried to "reform" things for the better, especially in the area of liturgy. The truth is, Benedict never swayed from his 60s modernism and embraced Vatican II
to the very end--striking his final blow against the monarchical nature of the papacy by resigning like a "burnt-out" CEO.
2. The article openly laments the "unjust canonical irregularity" of the SSPX and the absence and unlikelihood of an "acceptable pragmatic solution" (a.k.a., practical agreement) under the present pontificate.
My $0.02?
1. The criticism of Francis' pontificate does not go far enough, as muffled and measured as it was.
2. Nothing has changed. Menzingen still can't bear the idea of our canonical irregularity, when it ought to be worn as a badge of honor signifying our complete rejection of modernist Rome.
3. Despite Bishop Fellay's assertion that the SSPX is "back to Square One," the lesson has not been learned yet, as evidenced by the continued romanticism over an "acceptable pragmatic solution." They would still take a practical deal, if it were possible, and THAT's the danger, folks! Our position as the resistance: NO DEAL UNLESS ROME CONVERTS. IF IT CONVERTS, NO DEAL NECESSARY!
