News from Libreville
March 2019 – January 2021

The last time we gave you some News, it was in March 2019. A very mysterious virus
prevented us from sending you some News in March 2020.

Since March 2019, the Good Lord has allowed us to achieve many things. These
achievements were realized thanks to your continual support in spite of the difficult times.
To all of you, many thanks and may God bless you abundantly for your generosity.

1 March 2019 – Third trip to Uganda

March is dedicated to the great Patriach. Under his patronage, I flew to Uganda for my third
visit. I remained in the country for three weeks. The first week, I stayed in the capital,
Kampala. The following week, I went to Masaka and Kabale. Then I spent the last week in
Kampala.

In that third visit, I started to visit a group that was attending SSPX Masses. For
unknown reasons, the SSPX stopped visiting those people and their leaders asked me to
take care of them.

2 July 2019 – Trip to the USA

In the beginning of July, I flew to the USA in order to help Bishop Zendejas in his apostolate
and to get some funds for Africa. He sent me first to Kansas where I preached a mission and
I gave a conference on my work in Gabon and Uganda. One day, I was surprised to see
Father Pfeiffer. He went to see me when he heard that I was around. He spoke a lot trying to
convince me to join him. I could not believe it! Before going to Kansas, I said the Sunday Mass at
his place and I gave also a conference on my apostolate.

Then, I went to Florida for a few days to visit a friend. I met also different good
friends I had when I was the Pastor of the SSPX chapel in Sanford. Briefly I met Father
Hewko and Father Raphaël. They were together for a boy-camp. Fr Hewko had just split
from Fr Pfeiffer. It was very interesting to hear why he eventually had decided to leave him.
From Florida, I flew to Texas where I met other friends from the time I was stationed
in Dickinson, in the SSPX chapel. One of them drove me very far from Houston to a small
chapel where I celebrated Mass and I gave a conference in front of few people.


After Texas, I went back to Bishop Zendejas to prepare for my return to Gabon after
a wonderful month in the USA. Special thanks for all people who donated for my work in
Africa.

3 September 2019 – Brother Francis Arrives in Libreville

Francis, the one who asked me to visit Uganda, arrived in Libreville for his priestly training.
We are calling him Brother Francis. We did the paperwork for immigration and we started
the training with three months of French. Then in December, we started Latin, philosophy
and Gregorian chant.

The presence of Br Francis was a special blessing for our community. I was no more
alone and I could resume a community life.

4 November 2019 – Fourth trip to Uganda

I left Br Francis with the community in Libreville and I flew for three weeks in Uganda. As
usual, I spent the first week in Kampala and then I went to Masaka. Instead of three days, I
remained there for a full week and I just spent one day in Kabale before coming back to
Kampala.

These three weeks were special for two reasons: for the first time, Br Francis was not
around to assist me and most of the people of Kabale went away from us. So in Kabale, we
remained just with very few people.

5 February 2020 – First Religious Wedding

It was a long way before we could celebrate our first religious wedding. The wife was not
even baptized. I had to confirm the man before the wedding. We were hoping for more
religious weddings in 2020. But we did not expect the sanitary tyranny. We celebrated only
one religious wedding.

6 March 2020 – A very Mysterious Virus

When I flew to Uganda on the feast of Saint Thomas Aquinas, I was expected my visit to be
the first in 2021 and to visit the country again in November. Since December, the mass
media were terrorizing people with the story of a very mysterious virus. Nobody could tell
how the virus went through a very highly secure laboratory in China. The virus was
surrounded by mystery and lies.

The governments overreacted and we saw a general lockdown of entire countries for
the first time in human history. Even people in good health were put in quarantine!
However, I was able to move in Uganda and to visit our people in Masaka, Kabale before the
whole country was put under a general lockdown. Churches were closed! The airport was
shutdown. No way to get back to Gabon. Nobody knew when the airport will reopen.
Instead of three weeks, I remained nine months in Uganda. I took advantage of that
unexpected extra time to do more apostolate.

I celebrated new traditional ceremonies for our people like Holy Week and Corpus
Christi. I went through the whole catechism of Saint Pius X. I baptized some children. I gave
first Holy Communion to few children. I did almost one hundred enthronements of the



Sacred Heart. I showed two priests how to celebrate the Latin traditional Mass. We got a
new place for the holy sacrifice of the Mass just outside Kampala. We moved forward in our
project of a home for Tradition. I even took some Luganda classes!

7 December 2020 – My Trip to Nigeria

Around December 2019, a Nigerian priest called Father Michael Chigbata sent me a
message. He went through a traditional training with Father Juan Ortiz in the USA. Fr

Chigbata wanted to visit me in Gabon so that we can work together to promote Tradition in
the continent. He wanted to come in February 2020 but I asked him to come after my trip to
Uganda in March. We had to change everything because of the corona dictatorship.

In October, I received a message from Fr Ortiz asking me to visit Fr Chigbata and his
two priests in Nigeria. Actually, it was a request from Bishop Williamson. I agreed to visit
them in Nigeria as soon as I would have been back to Gabon.

In November, I went back to Gabon and immediately I prepared my flight to Nigeria.
In December, I flew to Nigeria and I spent there ten days with our priests. I spent a night in
Lagos where another priest welcomed me. The following day, I flew from Lagos to Enugu
where the three priests welcomed me and took me to their priory in Anaku, Anambra State.
I spent a full week with them helping them to know Tradition better.

8 Our Projects

It is very difficult to plan anything because of the sanitary craziness. Nevertheless, we hope
that one of the bishops will be able to visit us this year. We plan on building our presbytery
in Uganda. So far, we have been hosted by families but the best solution is to have our own
place. We will continue our training for our aspirants to priesthood. We plan to have more
religious weddings. Lastly, we will work on more connection between our three countries:
Gabon, Nigeria and Uganda.

Dear friends and benefactors, we are greatly thankful to you all for your support and
prayers. We will continue our work as much as we can in spite of the overreaction to the
covid 19.

5 February 2020 – First Religious Wedding

It was a long way before we could celebrate our first religious wedding. The wife was not
even baptized. I had to confirm the man before the wedding. We were hoping for more
religious weddings in 2020. But we did not expect the sanitary tyranny. We celebrated only
one religious wedding.

Yeah, well, it's Africa.

Archbishop Lefebvre, when in working in Africa, had to deal with the problem of Muslim or tribal converts who had more than one wife. Not an easy thing to rectify. I can't remember how he dealt with that, but Africa has its own set of problems.

Yeah, well, that doesn't mean priests are necessarily able to confirm. And in today's Church, the U.S. might as well be Africa when it comes to Confirmation.
There's no guarantee that supplied jurisdiction includes the delegation to confirm, and you can't settle for doubtful Confirmation.

Good point. I don't know how supplied jurisdiction works exactly with confirmation. But maybe the sacrament of confirmation, in order to be valid, is to be asked for or requested by a Catholic who does not otherwise have access to the traditional sacrament. As is the case with other sacraments pertaining to supplied jurisdiction. Or something like that.
