Priory for New Zealand appeal 16 January 2019
Dear Family, Friends and Benefactors,
We pray that God grants you and your family and loved ones many blessings in the New Year.
We hope to open a priory in New Zealand. This will be a base for the apostolate especially in Australia and New Zealand, but also sometimes for Canada and the USA.
The faithful have found a place that is quite suitable. It has an existing unused Anglican Church that could easily be converted to a Catholic Church. There is a beautiful stained-glass window of St. Agnes above the altar. The church is presently filled with junk, but at least some of the church benches are visible. The property is used for children’s summer camps. The 26 acre ( 10.5 hectare) site has three springs with good water (the only water supply) a spring fed lake of several acres with a maximum depth of about 4 metres (13 feet) which has perch in it. The campers use the lake for swimming and kayaking. There is an ordinary family house. And eleven bunkhouses each with four sets of bunk beds and their own shower, toilet and hot water supply. The property is at the end of a quiet unpaved lane with two other residences on it and there is ample parking. There is a large kitchen with several pantries and a large dining room. Underneath is storage used for kayaks and other camp equipment. The sewage system is suitable for use by up to 200 people.
A bit of cleaning and set up is all that is required for us to be able to use this place. The property is not on the market for sale, but the owner said he would consider an offer over $NZ 1,000,000. (approximately $US 700,000., €600,000.). After more contacts his interest is growing. He is ready to get out of the camp business. BUT we need to make an offer soon as in early February he must advertise the camp for the 2019-2020 camping season. To date we have raised just over 25% of what is required.
It seems that Divine Providence led the faithful to this property, but we will need much support to buy this place for a priory in New Zealand. We need benefactors to help us. The next / back page gives means to donate, and there are some photos taken by Fr. Chazal on the third and fourth pages
