I met him in the summer of 2002 in Rome, while there with Fr. Iscara for my summer apostolate.
I believe at the time, he had been stationed in St. Louis for several years, and other priests were asking him how he kept from being transferred regularly, like most others. He said something to the effect of knowing how to stay out of trouble.
Anyway, we were all sitting at a restaurant at the Vatican, when in walk a handful of priests, who see us, and exchanged pleasantries with Fr. Iscara and another Argentine SSPX priest whose name escapes me, but without stopping, and went to a table at the back of the restaurant where other priests were already seated.
Fr. Iscara leans over to us and says, “Do you know who that is?”
I shook my head no, and he says, “That is Fr. Rifan.”
Campos had just sold out 6 months prior, and likely as not, Rifan was there to work out details regarding his imminent episcopal consecration.
I remember Fr. Stanich looking back over at their table and softly, discretely pumping his fist into his other hand.
This is the extent of my knowledge of him, though I think he may once also have possibly been involved with the SSPX 3rd order?
