  • I have begun a new group, the Militia of Saint Peter in Chains, in order to organize a spiritual weapon in the hands of Our Lady for the deliverance of the Pope and the Roman Curia from Modernism and Liberalism. It requires a member to pray 5 decades of the Rosary daily for the following intentions: 1. The deliverance of the Pope and the Roman Curia from Modernism and Liberalism. 2. The triumph of the Holy Roman Church over her adversaries. 3. The Consecration of Russia by the Pope and bishops according to the Will of Our Lady of Fatima.

Likewise, members must wear the scapular of Our Lady of Ransom, an easily obtainable scapular. She appeared on the Feast of St. Peter in Chains to Saint Peter Nolasco, and then to Saint Raymond Peñafort and King James I of Aragon.

    The web address is militiaspc.org

We must pray for the pope, without ceasing, as the Church did for St. Peter in the Acts of the Apostles. He was delivered by an angel. Human solutions are vain regarding the present problem.

  • What a blessing.

    Deo gratias.
What return shall I make to the Lord for all the things that He hath given unto me?

  • I'm not entirely certain whether the "Pope" and Curia are captives or are in fact the captors.  Other than that, it's a laudable intention.  Unfortunately [or, rather, fortunately], through my total consecration to Our Lady, my prayers are not my own to be able to apply them specifically to any intentions like this.

Whether the Pope and the Curia are good or bad doesn't change the fact that they need prayers. I am afraid that they are both captives and captors.

I think regarding total consecration, you may still pray for the intentions, for all Catholics should pray for them anyway. It is the merit you gain by praying for them that is given over to her, and she will use them in the best possible way.

My purpose is not to steal merits from Our Lady, but just to get people to pray.

I also usually pray for the intentions of the blessed mother and let her guide my prayers instead of choosing my intentions myself.

Please pray for the repose of my soul.

  • I think it is important to keep a few things in mind regarding the three intentions of the Militia.

Firstly, to pray for the pope falls under the fourth commandment, wherein we have a duty to pray for our parents and those holding authority. This certainly does not violate the principles of St. Louis de Montfort, since the commandments are part of our duty. The merits are given to Our Lady, but to pray for the pope is a meritorious act. We must be careful not to fall into a type of Quietism whereby our will is never fixed to pray for a concrete person, and thus one does not exercise a concrete act of fraternal charity. Simply to say that one prays for whatever Our Lady wants without ever specifying a prayer for what falls under ones duty in charity or justice seems to me to be problematic. General intentions need to be complemented with specific ones.

Secondly, the intention for the triumph of the Roman Church is required of all who seek a plenary indulgence, since it is one of the four intentions of the pope necessary for the gaining of the indulgence.

Thirdly, the consecration of Russia is expressly willed by Our Lady, and thus it is meant to be prayed for.

Joining this little group is certainly not required, but I think that praying for these three things is not exactly optional.

  • FrayDomingo,

Are you a (Third Order) Dominican? If so, which one? Are you affiliated to SSPX (Belgium), Avrille... I would appreciate the answer to these questions. Thank you in advance.

That wasn't a commentary on whether they need prayers.  I was reflecting upon your choice of "St. Peter in Chains" to characterize the effort.

All I can do is to ask Our Lady to dedicate some of the merits of my prayers to the cause but I cannot actively commit X numbers of Rosaries or other prayers, because they are not mine to give.

Yes, I am a Third Order Dominican. I was received into the Order by the English Dominican Province, and received permission from the OP to receive persons into the Third Order in PA. I spoke later with a priest from Avrillé and asked whether our chapter needed to affiliate with France, but he did not see any reason for it, since we were better organized than the US members affiliated with Avrillé. However, I do receive the third order literature from Avrillé as a result.
