    Fact-proof conciliar optimism

Fifty years after the opening of Vatican II, we are quite far from the optimism of John XXIII, who declared on October 11, 1962:  “It seems to Us necessary to state our complete disagreement with those prophets of gloom who always announce catastrophes, as though the world was near its end.”  He then pilloried all those who “in the presence situation of society see only ruins and calamities;  they have the habit of saying that our era has profoundly worsened in comparison to past ages.”

At the opening of the Synod on the new evangelization that is being held at the Vatican from October 7 to 28, Cardinal Donald Wuerl, Archbishop of Washington, D.C. (USA) and Relator General of the synod assembly, drew up an affidavit concerning a “the dramatically changing societal background….  It’s almost as if a tsunami of secularism washed across the cultural landscape of and, when it receded, it took with it all of those foundational concepts: family, marriage, right and wrong, common good, objective order.” Secularism, he continued, “fashioned two generations of Catholics who do not know the Church’s foundational prayers,” do not understand the importance of going to Mass and have lost “a sense of mystery or the transcendent”.

What remedy should be applied to all these evils?  Is it enough to denounce, as Cardinal Wuerl does in the same speech, “the hermeneutic of discontinuity that permeated so much of the milieu of centers of higher education and was also reflected in aberrational liturgical practice”?  Can we be content with “a hermeneutic of reform in continuity”?

Looming over all the hermeneutics, the exegeses and the other interpretations of the Council, there are the facts.  And they speak for themselves.  Eloquently!

Communiqué of the General House of the Society of Saint Pius X (October 24, 2012)

    26-10-2012

Bishop Richard Williamson, having distanced himself from the management* and the government of the SSPX for several years, and refusing to show due respect and obedience to his lawful superiors, was declared excluded from the SSPX by decision of the Superior General and its Council, on October 4th, 2012. A final deadline had been granted to him to declare his submission, after which he announced the publication of an “open letter” asking the Superior General to resign.

This painful decision has become necessary by concern for the common good of the Society of Saint Pius X and its good government, according to what Archbishop Lefebvre denounced: “This is the destruction of authority. How authority can be exercised if it needs to ask all members to participate in the exercise of authority? “(Ecône, October 3, 1987)

    Menzingen, October 24th, 2012

    * The original text being in French, it must be noted that the word “authority” translates better the French word “direction”.

Isn't it odd, that Fr. Lorans goes to the trouble of quoting the Opening Speech
of Oct. 11th, 1962 and fails to mention the most important part of it!

Could that be by oversight?  Or was it deliberate??

If the latter, perhaps it is an indication of the agenda that drives this issue,
which also overlooks all the striking errors of Bishop Fellay over the past 12
years........................  Hey, maybe it's not so odd after all, eh?

How many superiors does +Bishop Williamson have?  Isn't it just +Fellay
or is it the whole council?
    Could someone enlighten me.

    "Superiors"... plural?

Oh yeah, Msgr. Williamson may have "dissed" the CFO ?

You know, not turning his travel expense reports in on time.

We all know that this is really what the expulsion was all about

"Some preachers will keep silence about the truth, and others will trample it underfoot and deny it. Sanctity of life will be held in derision even by those who outwardly profess it, for in those days Our Lord Jesus Christ will send them not a true Pastor but a destroyer."  St. Francis of Assisi
