  • I don't suppose it's known as to whether or not Bp. Fellay was in contact with Germaine Cornaz (Mme. Rossiniere) before +ABL died? There's probably not a way to know that. I'd be interested to know about when he first came into contact with her and her "teachings."

    Hi Meg-

    It is doubtful that there was any contact between Mme. Rossiniere and +Fellay before +Lefebvre died in 1991, because:

    1) According to the account of Fr. Grossin above, Rossiniere had grave reservations about the status of the SSPX in the Church (ie., she doubted whether they were in it);

    2) Interestingly, Fr. Grossin’s account also mentions that it was Fr. Lovey (+Fellay’s personal secretary at the time) who introduced +Fellay to Rossiniere in 1995.

    What is interesting to me is the significant role the Swiss Lovey family had in the promotion of and influence over +Fellay, and how they were causes of some of the more significant milestones in the life of the SSPX (eg., It was Fr. Lovey’s father, Roger Lovey, a major benefactor of Econe, who persuaded +Lefebvre to consecrate a Swiss; his son is later ordained a priest for the SSPX, becomes +Fellay’s secretary, and is responsible for introducing him to Rossiniere, who’s fake visions would provide the “supernatural” justification for departing from +Lefebvre’s posture of no practical accord).

    To me, it’s curious one family should be so intertwined with the history and destiny of the Society, but perhaps there is nothing there.

    And yet, according to Fr. Grossin, after +Fellay was forced to backtrack on his official support for Rossiniere, Fr. Lovey continued to organize secret meetings of “priest friends” in support of Rossiniere and her vision of the SSPX marching into Rome (as they did in 2000) to save the Church:

    “The influence of Father Lovey, a Swiss from Valais, compatriot of Bishop Fellay and very much appreciated by him, has been decisive. Father Lovey is also Monsignor Fellay's personal secretary, and not Secretary General as I wrote earlier. I know from a reliable and priestly source that there are secret meetings of priests around Father Lovey to spread the spirituality of Madame Cornaz. This does not happen in the light of day because a certain number of priests have denounced the imposture. Bishop Fellay had to backtrack and abandon the idea of making the Homes of Christ the Priest official.

    The simple fact that a bishop of the FSSPX, Superior General, could one day guarantee these aberrations, shows us in whose hands the negotiations with the Vatican are in.”

    Who were these priests?  No doubt they were those later who were so motivated to sign a practical accord (necessary for the realization of Rossiniere’s vision).

    A question about which make no judgment then emerges:

    What was Fr. Lovey’s purpose in introducing +Fellay to Rossiniere?  Was he simply naive?  Or was he (and others in contact with him) using Rossiniere to justify the GREC meetings/solution, and promote a practical accord which would place the SSPX within the grips of the modernist enemy?

    Whatever the truth of the matter, the Rossiniere visions certainly coincided with the GREC meetings, and were consistent with their aims of a practical accord.

    If ever a link between Gilbert Perol (founder of GREC) and Rossiniere could be established, we would have our answer.
    Rom 5: 20 - "But where sin increased, grace abounded all the more."

    I appreciate your thorough explanation.
    "It is licit to resist a Sovereign Pontiff who is trying to destroy the Church. I say it is licit to resist him in not following his orders and in preventing the execution of his will. It is not licit to Judge him, to punish him, or to depose him, for these are acts proper to a superior."

  • This story actually puts Bishop Fellay in a better position, since it makes His Excellency look more like a naive and unprepared superior than an evil modernist infiltrator.
