Can a secular priest be a father director? This seems to me to be a novel idea? Not attacking, just would like to know how this works? It would seem contrary to the Franciscan rule.
We conclude logically that religion can give an efficacious and truly realistic answer to the great modern problems only if it is a religion that is profoundly lived, not simply a superficial and cheap religion made up of some vocal prayers and some ceremonies...

  • Given the state of emergency and the lack of a 1st or 2nd Order Franciscan in the Resistance, we requested that Fr Pfeiffer, as the Superior of the Resistance in North America, grant faculties to Fr Hewko to be the Director. It is similar to the use of supplied jurisdiction within the SSPX and the Resistance.

  • I am in the TOSF as are the other founding members of our Fraternity. We were professed by Father Mery SSPX several years ago - he was delegated the power by Morgon.

Then, since according to the Rule and Constitution, any three professed members can form a fraternity, we did.

Then, as noted, analogous to supplied jurisdiction (provided by Divine Positive Law for the good of souls), in the absence of a 1st or 2nd Order Franciscan in the Resistance, we requested Fr Pfeiffer (the Superior of North American Resistance) to erect the Fraternity and appoint Fr Hewko as Director.

We believe that we are following proper procedures under the circuмstances.

  • If you professed to be third order Franciscans under Morgan than you all that did this would be third order Franciscans. I don't doubt this at all. The Rule says that a priest can be delegated to receive a profession. There is nothing stating that the priest delegated must have normal jurisdiction.

However, you have no right within procedures to do away with your superior and elect a secular priest with no jurisdiction as your superior. Technically, you would still have your superior of the order and you cannot change this unless you are expelled from the order, which you should consider has now probably happened. When you are professed into a third order you are not in a position to expel your superior. It is the contrary.
