That's the car that was donated to them,

Do they say somewhere that it was donated?

so what were they supposed to do then?

    I'd just sell it.

The owner could have sold it and given the $33,000 to the Seminary, but a well-run raffle can make 10 times that amount.   They'd be stupid not to hold a raffle.

I still don't know where you're getting that it was donated, but a vehicle is not a one-of-a-kind item. You can buy one and hold a raffle any day of the week. One of the local churches here does it once a year.

I don't think they'd be "stupid" to sell this particular car if they thought it might not be the best raffle item for their target audience.

  • Why not buy a new family sized van, at a discount and then auction that if raffles return a profit.

I think at 100 dollars per ticket, not that many people will be buying a ticket.  333 tickets sold?  Perhaps.

More SSPX laity would want a large multi-seater van and older people who wanted to support the SSPX and larger families could buy the ticket on behalf of a large family in the parish.
