  • I can't vouch for the source this time. Can anyone verify this?

    Quote
It's how, in all the years I was going to the SSPX in Fl it was always done. My friends who are still assisting at Mass at OLV in Davie were stunned. It wasn't announced, the prayers were just not done. When asked, the Pastor just said that's how it's going to be.

Are other SSPX Chapels not doing the Leonine prayers anymore? What's really ominous, especially with Fellay's determination to join the modernists, is that the Leonine prayers were the first to go 50 years ago before the wholesale destruction of the Mass.

I'm really interested to know if other SSPX Chapels are excluding the prayers after Low Mass."

  • I went to the Sandford, Florida chapel last Sunday June 20th for Low Mass and the priest didn't do   the Leonine prayers either.

  • Has there been a weather blessing after the mass?

In German speaking countries it's normal to give the weather blessing from from May 3 (Feast of the Finding of the Cross) to September 14 (Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross).
In this case the Leonin prayers are omitted.

Anyway, there are some occasions on which the Leonine Prayers may be omitted e.g. when Mass is ‘immediately and duly’ followed by other function, such as Benediction.

  • In Sandford, the priest had the blessing of the sick after Mass so I wasn't sure if he had forgotten or what. I also went to an SSPX funeral Mass of a priest last year where the priest didn't say the last Gospel. I wasn't sure of the reason but the indult I go to while vacationing in Ocean City also omits the last Gospel.

A strict following of the 1962 Missal calls for the omission of the Last Gospel when another liturgical function follows the Mass, thus in the Requiem Mass the Absolution at the Bier forms part of the liturgical rite and the Last Gospel would be omitted.

As for the Leonine Prayers they may be skipped where some other devotion or liturgical rite follows directly after Mass.

Sometimes Masses are scheduled too close together and for that reason a priest who has gone a little long in the sermon may drop the Leonine Prayers because of the next approaching Mass. I've seen that done.

Some SV chapels haven't done them for years arguing that the fall of the Iron Curtain and the resurgence of "Faith" in Russia is an intention no longer worth praying for and that a "True Pope" would have canceled them by now.

If SSPX priests are dropping these prayers for no apparent reason then there is something afoot I'll be bound !
    Please pray for my soul.

  • I am visiting in CA right now and went up to the retreat house for Mass.  Leonine prayers were said there.

WOW!  "Blessing of the sick" is definitely a Novus Ordo thing! That's scary. Sounds like things are changing, like 50 years ago......

I've heard this as well.  I find it disturbing.

Things like this -- and Raoul76's testimony about how many Sedes are full-blown Americanists -- are some of the many reasons I avoid Sedevacantism like the plague.

The problem with Sedevacantism is that it's something positive. It's a positive declaration or choice. So once you set up that "Sedevacantist" chapel, it's hard to not constantly obsess about that one issue.

Say I started a "European Traditional Catholic chapel" tomorrow. Wouldn't you expect there to be something different about the day-to-day experience at that chapel, compared with your plain vanilla "Traditional Catholic chapel"? Of course you would. And you'd be right! The sermons would probably talk about Europe's role in Divine Providence more than most chapels, the parishioners would probably be above-average against immigration, there would probably be a few neo-nαzιs in the parish, and so forth. If we didn't do something different, we would be kind of silly to be so specific on our chapel's signage.

I like the fruits of Archbishop Lefebvre's lifeboat much, much better. I'll take that lifeboat any day, thanks.

The SSPX's only flaw was getting too large, and consequently too high on themselves. They always had a "we are the Church" mentality gnawing at them (or sitting on their left shoulder with the devil, as it were). I think God has allowed them to fall, to take them down a few pegs.

Now we have the Resistance, which has all the good doctrine and Catholic attitude of +ABL without any of the wealth or numbers (or resulting temptations to rely on human means). God is doing this to us for our own good!

Just FYI: MOST Sedevacantists do include the Leonine Prayers. Very few omit them. In fact, in my experience a good number of the Priests who work with and/or otherwise support the particular Sedevacantist Priest who came up with the idea of dropping the Leonine Prayers say the Leonine Prayers at their own Masses. Some of them even say them in Latin rather than English!

Raoul76's testimony about how many Sedes are...

If memory serves, Raoul76 claimed a lot of things and said he really knew all the facts of the issue.  His testimony about sedevacantists he personally knew might have some worth, but his testimony about sedevacantists in general is absolutely worthless.

By the way, I have attended Mass at a number of non-sedevacantist chapels and have found John Bircher-types at many of them drinking coffee in the parish hall after Mass.  But I certainly would never claim to give testimony about many non-sedevacantists and their Americanist tendencies.

Indeed.  I'd like to make it clear that I've heard about the omission of the prayers in sedevacantist chapels.  I've never actually experienced it.
