"Doubtful pope." Ok. But God gives them to us as popes for a reason.

We are being tried, people. The wheat is being separated from the chaff before burning.

V2, and its pope implementers, are most dangerous, because they speak some truth - the "it come to pass which he spake" of Dt 13 - which they use as cover, a prominent piece of their costume to mask their deception.

As always, there is a passage(s) of Scripture that give guidance:

Quote
1 John 4:1-3  Dearly beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits if they be of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.  2 By this is the spirit of God known. Every spirit which confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh, is of God:  3 And every spirit that dissolveth Jesus, is not of God: and this is Antichrist, of whom you have heard that he cometh, and he is now already in the world.

Deuteronomy 13:1-3 (original Douay translation)  If there rise in the midst of thee a Prophet, or one that saith he hath seen a dream, and foretell a sign and a wonder, and it come to pass which he spake, and he say to thee: a Let us go, and follow strange gods, which thou knowest not, and let us serve them: thou shalt not hear the words of that Prophet or dreamer: for the Lord your God tempteth you, that it may appear whether you love him or not, with all your heart, and with all your soul.

a Novelty in Religion is a mark of idolatry or heresy.

I think of John XXIII's "dream" of calling a counsel - Vatican II:

Quote
The idea for a council had come to him, the pope said later in his opening speech to the council, “like a flash of heavenly light.” A few months earlier, while addressing a group of pilgrims from his former patriarchal see of Venice, he had referred to the idea as “an unexpected illumination.”

The note a on Deuteronomy 13 is an annotation of the Douay translators.

Very prescient of the annotators of the Douay.

Hmmm.

Quote
Apocalypse 13

13 And he did great signs, so that he made also fire to come down from heaven unto the earth in the sight of men.  14 And he seduced them that dwell on the earth, for the signs, which were given him to do in the sight of the beast, saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make the image of the beast, which had the wound by the sword, and lived.  15 And it was given him to give life to the image of the beast, and that the image of the beast should speak; and should cause, that whosoever will not adore the image of the beast, should be slain.

Not only did Roncalli use the "illumination" phrase, but in one of his early encyclicals he made an extremely cryptic reference to there being a "mysterious force" rising.

If you do a bit of research, "mysterious force" is the ancient name for Masonry.

So, yes, no crap, Sherlock, that "we are being tried".  You're acting as if you've come up with something profound here.  We all know this.  And, sadly, part of the trial has to do with whether or not people still believe in the Church and the Papacy, and the indefectibility of the Church, and many Trads are failing that particular test.

As for the first sentence above ...

Give has given them to us as DOUBTFUL popes for a reason.  You immediately beg the very question that the "Doubtful pope" position calls into question, i.e whether these actually are popes or not.  That's part of the sifting, you see.  You have to apply your "sensus Catholicus" and your faith to SEE that these men that appear to be pope, i.e. have the accidents of popes, are not actually popes, i.e. do not have the substance of popes.  That's why God also gave us the Blessed Sacrament, with Our Lord being hidden under the accidents of bread, since we need to exercise our faith to discern that despite the apperances, the substance is altogether different.

If you can't figure this out, then you are failing said the very trial you so astutely point out to us.  With each day that passes, you sound more and more like Stubborn where because there's a guy walking around in a white cassock in Rome, this proves that we have a pope.
