To be fair, Matthew, +De Lauriers wrote that letter in 1979. Whether what is contained in it is true or not, Archbishop Lefebvre certainly had the opportunity to defend himself
Which he did indeed do, as did Jean Madiran. If I get the time later I'll try to dig it up for you but one really does get weary of all these lies being repeated. It shows how little these people really knew the Archbishop. If I recall there was some kind of apology/retraction from Fr de Lauriers also.

This is the position of Guimaraes, as stated in this article, can you believe such stupidity? Great intellectuals, but they don't understand the meaning of obedience:

But they cannot decide on their own to publicly consecrate bishops against Rome’s will. It is an arrogant rebellion that calls for the most severe punishment. Since this punishment is known as excommunication, the perpetrators of this crime place themselves voluntarily outside of the Church.

The true resistance against Progressivism – Vatican II and its consequences, the New Mass, the usurpation of the government of the Church and so on – must be made inside the Church, as we do at Tradition in Action.

Guimaraes is an idiot.

There's no other way to say it.

If there was a later retraction from Des Lauriers, men with the integrity (or lack thereof) of a Guimaraes wouldn't mention it. He's a complete tool.

Okay. thanks for your interesting responses defending +ABL and the incongruity of pre-1955 tradition with the formation of the SSPX.
.
But how about the argument that Prevost's mission is to strip the Consiliar Church of all tradition, enabling the Revolution to more freely move to a unified religion?

And the part about the SSPX becoming autonomous?

I don't think those points are idiotic but rather novel perspectives on how this may all turn out.

All this from the perspective of a man who thinks that Tradition should put itself under the authority of those who want to destroy it. Idiotic from start to finish.
