  • The Rosary this evening at the funeral home was well attended. There was about another 30-40 people behind my vantage point, so I would estimate around 120 total? I'm sure there were many more who came by, during the day. I can only imagine how many people will attend the funeral Mass tomorrow...

John Vennari Laid to Rest in New York
    April 12, 2017
    District of the USA

Fr. Adam Purdy, SSPX, presides over the Funeral of Mr. Vennari
On April 8, 2017, priests of the SSPX performed a solemn high requiem Mass for Mr. John Vennari at a local church in Buffalo, NY.
John Vennari, editor of Catholic Family News for over 20 years, died on the morning of Tuesday, April 4, 2017. Solemn ceremonies were organized for his funeral, Saturday, April 8.
Due to the small size of the Society of Saint Pius X's Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel in Buffalo, local Bishop Richard Malone kindly allowed the use of a diocesan church for the Requiem Mass. The administrator of Buffalo's Corpus Christi Parish, Fr. Michał Czyżewski, OSPPE, graciously opened his church to the Society for the occasion.
At Mr. Vennari's own request expressed before his death, Fr. Adam Purdy, former pastor of Buffalo's Society chapel, offered the Solemn High Mass. He was assisted by Canadian District Superior Fr. Daniel Couture as deacon and Fr. Nicholas Gardner, current pastor of the Buffalo mission as subdeacon. Attending in choir were Fr. Jean Violette, prior of St. Ignatius Retreat House, Ridgefield, CT; Fr. Dominique Boulet, prior of St. Michael Priory, Toronto, Canada; Fr. Justus Ndyamukama of St. Anthony Church, Buffalo, and Fr. Marijan Procyk of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Church, Buffalo. Several other priests, including Fr. Gerard Beck, First Assistant to the U.S. District Superior, were also to have assisted but were prevented in doing so by inclement weather.
The choir from the SSPX's St. Peter Church in New Hamburg, ON sang at the Mass. SSPX Brothers from the Canadian district and laymen from the United States and Canada comprised the schola. Catholics attending the Traditional Mass for the first time (or for the first time in decades), many non-Catholics and even non-Christians were visibly moved at the beauty of the Church's traditional obsequies.
Immediately following the Requiem Mass, the interment took place at Mount Calvary Cemetery in nearby Cheektowaga, NY.
    Requiescat in pace.

  • From what I hear, there were quite a few canceled flights because of the storm that swept through on Friday, but thankfully plenty of people made it out to his Funeral. Corpus Christi Church is one beautiful place to have a Latin Mass if ever I've seen one.

Anyway, I have a lot of prayer cards for John if anyone is interested. If you'd rather not go through me, perhaps you could send a request to Matthew and I'll send them through to him. That is of course if Matthew would be willing to do that. No charge of course.

  • I know Father Purdy because he is the priest at my mission now. And Father Gardner used to be the priest at my mission. I like Father Purdy as a priest. Father Gardner is so young. He looks like a baby and I am not that old myself. I went to college in Buffalo but that was before I was a traditional Catholic so I am not familiar with the traditional Catholic presence in the area.

Please pray for the repose of my soul.

  • .
His Rosary looks like it was a beautiful event.
Our Lady made her personal appearance with her Christ Child.
