January 1, 2020 - Solemnity of Mary???
« on: December 16, 2019, 07:58:44 AM »
In the SSPX chapel bulletin dated 12/15/19 it has January 1, 2020 listed as "Solemnity of Mary" rather than "Feast of the Circuмcision of Our Lord".  I've never seen this outside of New Church.  Anyone else see this?

SSPX is likely following the Novus-Ordo-revised 1962 Missal ... which is basically the 1962 Tridentine Missal with a few exceptions (removal of any negativity against Jews and the addition of Novus Ordo saints).  Coming soon, offering Mass in commemoration of St. Montini on his feast day.

Could it be that the real reason John XXIII suppressed the ancient Feast of the Circuмcision of Our Lord was because it implicitly rejected ecuмenism, pluralism, and the ecclesiological revolution he was planning to commence two years later?

Recall that the circuмcision was the mark of God’s once-chosen people, indicating they had been set aside from all others, as the only ones set upon the path of salvation.

Only those who bore this mark were part of (the precursor to) the one true Church.

A feast which highlighted exclusivity, rejected pluralism, and opposed the very spirit of the new ecclesiology would stand as a rebuke to the revolution being planned.

Very convenient, therefore, to replace the ancient Feast with another.

And after all, what kind of Catholic would object to a feast of Our Lady?!

Last week I received a calendar from Clear Creek Abbey which has "The Solemnity of the Mother of God" on January 1st. No mention of the Circuмcision. The SSPX is definitely following the same calendar as the Indult Summorum Pontificuм Communities.

The Resistance liturgical calendar printed by Bishop Zendejas still shows the Feast of the Circuмcision.
