Sean said: This person later left the Resistance, and the last time I heard from them (about a year after this post), they said to me, "I now ask with Fr. Themann, 'Resistance to what?'"
So has the person now returned to supporting the Society of St. Pius X? Or left Tradition, or left Catholicism, or what?
Re: Thread Topic. Vatican II was called for by the Pope and all the Bishops of the Church. Therefore, it was certainly guaranteed the perpetual promised protection of the Holy Spirit, by the indefectibility of the Teaching Church and the divine Promise. It was not ex cathedra or infallible though, but it belongs to the Ordinary and Authentic Magisterium of the Teaching Church.
See the Catechism of Pope St. Pius X: "43 Q. Of whom is the Teaching Church composed? A. The Teaching Church is composed of all the Bishops, with the Roman Pontiff at their head, be they dispersed throughout the world or assembled together in Council ... 46 Q. Are we obliged to hear the Teaching Church? A. Yes, without doubt we are obliged under pain of eternal damnation to hear the Teaching Church; for Jesus Christ has said to the Pastors of His Church, in the persons of the Apostles: "He who hears you, hears Me, and he who despises you, despises Me." (See Ninth Article of the Creed, Answers to Questions, Q. 43, and Q 46.)"
