Interesting development here. It's one thing to say that what +Lefebvre did was justified or understandable, and quite another to assert that he'll be canonized one day and exhibited heroic virtue.
Also interesting: Which virtues did he demonstrate heroically?
1) Faith
2) Fortitude
3) Prudence
And especially
4) Charity
One regret I have is that because Lefebvre was necessarily so focused on the apostolate, he never had the opportunity to write deep theological works (despite double doctorates).
All his energies were pastoral: His books were meant for common trads; so were his priests, his Society, his worldwide travels and conferences, etc.
I guess that’s what God wanted from him in the post-conciliar era.
He’s what we needed to keep the faith alive at the practical and concrete level.
His vocation wasn’t the same as Cajetan’s or St. Thomas Aquinas’s, so he won’t be a Doctor.
But like +Schneider implies, he will definitely be a Bishop Confessor (and white martyr), and possibly the greatest since Bellarmine or even Athanasius, and considering that he stood nearly alone, possibly the greatest since St. Paul.
It’s encouraging to observe that, about the same time as the 2018 SSPX General Chapter was reinforcing their 2012 sellout, God gave us Vigano (2018 was when he blew the whistle on McCarrick/Francis).
