Is this claim of the resistance true or false?

  • I have heard the claim of a resistance supporter that in one of the SSPX chapels in Ohio the SSPX priest comes once a month and on the other weeks of the month he has a Novus Ordo priest go to the chapel and say Mass. But I have been told by another person that this claim was false. Does anyone out there know if it is true or not. Thank you.
    R.I.P.
Please pray for the repose of my soul.

  • Here is what I could find.
The Information seems to have first been posted on The Recusant, Jan 2014 issue, pp.34:

"“Bi-Ritual” (Novus/Trad) Priest takes care of SSPX chapel-Word comes to us from the USA that Fr. Thomas Scott, SSPX priest, arranged for a priest from the local diocese, a Fr. Bede OSB, who normally says a Latin Novus Ordo, to cover for his temporary absence from his chapel in Ohio."

Which was confirmed by forum members on the :

By Senior Member DMarie Mar 24, 2014:
"It seems the entire story of that one started when Fr Scott got very sick the morning of the funeral he was supposed to be doing for one of the young faithful of the parish who had passed away unexpectedly.  Apparently Fr. Scott did not believe he could perform the duty so he called the diocese priest Fr. Bede and asked if he would fill in for him.  That priest agreed and was planning to when oddly but perhaps quite miraculously (perhaps) Father Scott was completely better and told Fr Bede it would not be necessary for him to come after all.

Following that incident; it seems Fr. Scott gets sick on a sudden quite often, arrangements were being made (although it was insisted nothing had as of yet been set in stone) to have Fr. Bede fill in for him when things of this unavoidable nature occur.  Fr. Bede is a novus ordo who celebrates the novus ordo in Latin."

"Knowing very well the family of the young man who died I have considered that it might not have gone over well had the novus ordo priest showed up.  That is why it had occurred to me maybe it  was an act of mercy on God's part to make Fr. Scott so suddenly better, in order to spare the family so much added upsetness to their already grieving hearts."

I heard the same abt. Fr. Thomas Scott and will follow up when I find the video I heard it from.

  • Maybe they are sharing the chapel with the novus ordo? You said the SSPX are only there once a month.

If on the other hand it was the case that an SSPX church was allowing the novus ordo inside it as a substitute, then I would have a problem with it and would start to agree with the resistance - because then this would be definitve proof that the SSPX is in danger of abandoning tradition.

I await someone to show me proof on this matter before I will start to think that the resistance is a good thing.
